Just booked Explorer and had an interesting time doing so.

We haven't been on Explorer in about 2 years, and we want to sail on her once more before she leaves us for good, plus we just really wanted to book a cruise. Anyway we have what will be a 13 month old son at the time of the cruise in August.

Here is the interesting part. I went to my usual and favorite TA website, and tried to book a "Royal promenade" room because we always wanted to try one. The website would allow it, and we called and they wouldn't allow it either saying "it was RCCL policy". We then called RCCL, and they quickly booked us no problem. Do you find that odd? It cost us a good 500 bucks more to do it with RCCL, but hey what are ya gonna do. You want to go, you pay the price.

Any suggestions, or advice for cruisers with a baby for the first time? We would great appreciate any info you may have for us, thanks.

Promenade rooms only berth 2 people. But can fit 3 if the infant is in a crib.

So I'm guessing you've requested a crib for your son?

 

Maybe the travel agent realised there were only 2 beds (or one double) which is why they denied the booking not knowing about the crib??

Now that it's booked can you transfer it to your TA and get your perks?

I have no idea if that's possible, and I'm pretty loyal. I booked with RCL, and I'll keep it that way. The RCCL agent we booked with said royal promenade room come with a "pack and play". I wonder why my regular TA didn't know this. I also wonder if they have designated rooms for people with infants, and they only allow them sold through RCCL? I wonder if its official policy for TA's, and RCCL is the only one allowed to break that or allow a child? Interesting though I think.

If you're comfortable using a babysitter in your room, there are several children's staff members who will come to your room and baby sit while you enjoy a night out with your spouse. They do this during their time off to make extra money. I forget what the charge is for this service.
