Embarkation time

Sailed the Odyssey on May 13; the boarding time was set to 2:00pm but we, and quite a large group, were at the port at noon, and actually boarded at around 12:15pm. Of course, this might not be the norm, but has happened in our two SB cruises.

Whilst it's not "promoted" early boarding seems to be available at most ports now with lunch in Colonnades offered to those boarding early. It used to be that you were directed to the Grand Salon with sandwiches on offer but the current approach is much more civilized.

On all our Seabourn cruises in the past 2 or 3 years we have boarded well before 2 p.m. - usually at or soon after noon, certainly before 1. In most ports, on the 3 newer ships, one does the 'signing on' on shore, and is then directed up to the Colonnade for lunch once on board.

Much more civilised than being 'herded' into the darkish main lounge, with some rather miserable sandwiches on offer.

However, I agree that Seabourn still suggest 2 p.m. as the official boarding time. Even though quite a few cruises sail at 4 p.m.

We just got our prelim docs for our cruise on the Legend sailing from London on August 27. The docs say that sailing time is 3:30 p.m. and to board no later than 2:30 and no earlier than noon.

This is because the Thames is tidal and sailings are governed by the tide.

Make sure you know how to get to the ship from both sides of the Thames. On the cruise prior to mine and the one I was on the ball was dropped and people were instructed to board from the wrong side.
