Victoria transit - USD or CAD

Howdy.

 

Would any of you that have visited Victoria, BC and rode their transit (public transport) be able to help out?

 

Can we pay with USD on the local buses or do we need to use CAD?

 

Also, would there be an ATM close to the cruise port in Victoria?

You will need CDN$ for public transport. Sorry I don't know the answer to the ATM question.

In my recollection, there are no close ATMs in Victoria (unless downtown 1 mile away counts as close.) You should be able to get $CAD onboard the ship for the same exchange rates you'll get ashore.

BC Transit will happily take US quarters. Just not the notes.

Agreed...I was just there less than 2 weeks ago. My friend brought some "leftover from another trip" Canadian coins, but when those were used up we used American coins. No problem whatsoever. But they won't take notes of either country. Fortunately I always travel with a pill bottle of quarters. Thank goodness, as I used them all up getting from Victoria to Canada Place in Vancouver to catch my cruise. The Canadian couple who were helping me make sure I caught the correct bus, however, didn't realize that they couldn't pay with bills. So they could only pay a portion of their fare, and had to get change before they could transfer to the next portion of the trip.
