Hard-habit-to-break Posted June 5, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 5, 2014 Hi We will be flying into Seattle on Friday, 29th August, and are planning on spending a few days in Seattle before getting Amtrak to Vancouver for a few days before starting our cruise. Have just realised that we will be in Seattle/Vancouver during the long weekend (planning on taking Amtrak on Monday 1st September). Is there anything we should be aware of? Is it going to be hectic in either city and should we be avoiding areas as they are too busy? Hotels are booked so that is ok, and will be booking Amtrak this weekend. Will the usual sights be open - ie Pike Place, Space Needle etc etc? Thanks, Kirrarne

Thanks, Kirrarne Seattle Center - Space Needle, EMP, Chihuly etc. will be the site for Bumbershoot, a music festival that attracts around 300,000 visitors. http://bumbershoot.org/ Those attractions - Space Needle, Chihuly, EMP, Pacific Science Center etc. and the monorail station will be open to the public; they cordon off the rest of Seattle Center for those with paid admissions. Still, it makes the whole area very congested, and anybody staying on the north side of the Center (e.g. Maxwell Hotel) planning to cut through to the monorail should think again - you'll have to circumnavigate Seattle Center to get downtown. Of course if you like indie/progressive/weird/cool music and the arts, you're in luck.
Hard-habit-to-break Posted June 6, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted June 6, 2014 Thanks for this info. We are staying at The Edgewater Hotel. First time visit to Seattle and Vancouver so I think we are just going to have to deal with the crowds for the areas we want to go to.
