Thunderstruck17 Posted June 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 7, 2014 We are about to go on the Fantasy in July for a 5-day cruise. This will be our first n the Fantasy, and 2nd Carnival cruise. What were your overall impressions of the ship? We hope it is a good vacay.
RBC Hokie Posted June 7, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted June 7, 2014 For an older ship and probably the oldest in carnivials fleet I was very impressed with the ship. They take very good care of her and you can't beat the staff on this ship seems like everyone takes a lot of pride in what they do. This was our first cruise on the Fantasy and we had a great experience and wonderful vacation.

seannyice81 Posted June 7, 2014 #7 Share Posted June 7, 2014 Glad to read you had a good time. Did you drive to the ship? If so, what area of VA are you from and roughly how long a drive was it? What was the cost of parking?
jrm116 Posted June 7, 2014 #8 Share Posted June 7, 2014 I'm thinking about Fantasy too... Were there a lot of actitvies going on or should we opt for a bigger ship? I do like how I am only 2 hrs from the Fantasy! But wondering if a longer trip to Florida on a bigger ship is worth the extra $
RBC Hokie Posted June 7, 2014 Author #9 Share Posted June 7, 2014 There were lots of stuff going on day and night enough to keep us entertained just depends on what you like to do. We usually just laid in the sun all day and got in the pool some to cool down on the 3 sea days we had. And at night we would hit the casino and take in the comic shows and listen to the band and the people doing the karaoke was pretty good. They have a disco that was pretty packed out late every night. They also had some games going on in the universal lounge that were pretty funny as well. RBC Hokie Posted June 8, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Was there lots of stuff to do and how was the food? Sent from my iPhone using Forums The food was good we're used to southern food but all in all it was pretty good. We ate at the buffet every morning and had the omelets they were really good. And ate in the main dining room every evening and can't really complain about the food.

RBC Hokie Posted June 8, 2014 Author #12 Share Posted June 8, 2014 I'm thinking about Fantasy too... Were there a lot of actitvies going on or should we opt for a bigger ship? I do like how I am only 2 hrs from the Fantasy! But wondering if a longer trip to Florida on a bigger ship is worth the extra $ I'm sure on a bigger ship there will be more to do and bigger water park and pool. But we thought there was a lot to do on the ship I guess it just depends on what you like to do. The Fantasy is a great ship to be small I thought they did a great job of trying to keep everyone entertained thru out the week. They have a couple water slides and a small water place for the kids. The main pool is small but we had no problem getting in a swimming for awhile during the day to cool off.
OCruisers Posted June 8, 2014 #13 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Glad it was a good cruise for you and had hoped someone would post when returning! We were to have been on this same Fantasy sailing last week but had to cancel (Grand Suite) because of being needed at home for several months. Ive read in different places the comedy show can be very packed with no seating and turning people away how did you find this was there plenty of seating. Thanks glad to hear you all had a wonderful trip They have two shows one at 10pm and one at 11pm We went a little early every night and had no problem with seating we usually got there around 9:30 and got seats up front couple nights. The last night we waited and went about 9:45 and got seats in the back they did turn people away that night that got there right at 9:55 -10:00 if you can go around 9:30 you shouldn't have any trouble getting seats or at least on this cruise we didn't have any trouble at all getting seats. The boat was packed for this sailing all cabins sold out.

Gabrielle We drove in and got to Charlston early that morning we walked around Charlston some and took in the sites until about 10:00am and drove over to the port and did early luggage drop off. And was told that they would not be parking until 12:00pm so we drove around for about an hour and half looking at some of the houses in town. Went back to the port about 11:45 and they had started letting everyone park took us about 15mins to get thru the cones and into the parking garage. Then walked out to get on the shuttle bus to the terminal took about 10mins got to the terminal and went inside place was pretty packed but we had purchased the fttf well worth 50.00 to walk in and go straight to the check in windows and then after getting checked in straight to the ship. All which took about 15 to 20mins. Im going to say we were on the ship a little after 12 and cabin was ready and luggage beat us to our cabin. I'm wanting to say get there around 11:00-11.15 and you should be fine. Getting off the boat was about like getting on for us we had a zone 2 debark we didn't do the self debark let them take our luggage the night before. We met in the library at 8:00 this morning if you had fttf and was off the ship and headed home before 9:00am so it went pretty smooth I guess hardest part was trying to find our luggage it all looks the same sitting there in the terminal. I would suggest marking it some way so it's easy to spot.

Jimmy Buffetts Margaritaville in Grand Turk was pretty nice if you like to people watch it also has a swim up pool bar. Charlston is nice also if you like to walk around and look at all the history they have there.

cruzeluver Posted June 8, 2014 #24 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Glad you had a great time! We are doing one of the 7 day sailings in August. We live in the area so we actually drove down to the port to see how embarkation was going (maybe we saw ya! ). It appeared the first shuttle into the terminal pulled out around 11:15. Gabrielle R. Posted June 8, 2014 #25 Share Posted June 8, 2014 Thanks for the information on check in...Still not sure what will work best for us... We didn't buy the FTTF.... I'm really looking forward to seeing and doing! It's been 12 years since we did a Carnival Cruise, so curious to see how things have changed- Fantasy would've been a brand new ship when we sailed last on Carnival. ;) AND we get to spend 5 days in Charleston too! So life is pretty good for us! We get the best of BOTH worlds.
