Spa mini-suite on NCL Getaway vs. Grand Suite on Indy

Recommended Posts

I'd love people's opinions on this. My wife and I are currently booked on Indy in a GS on a 6 night Western Carribbean cruise at the end of January. However after I saw Getaway in St. Thomas on our Allure cruise I've been intrigued in trying NCL's newest ship. We love Royal and we've never sailed on NCL before but the entertainment and food options on Getaway look intriguing.

I saw a 7 night Eastern Itinerary on Getaway in a spa suite for $1229 pp plus $200 OBC. We booked our Indy cruise on board and got the $200 OBC and the price is about the same due to the current sale going on. I'm not sure if there's a thermal suite on Indy but we loved it on Allure so that was a huge draw for us. Also with the booking of the GS we would make platinum since we're at 19 C&A points.

I love Royal and would love to make it to the next C&A level to get the reciprocal benefits on Celebrity because we might go to Alaska next year. But the Getaway looks pretty awesome, almost like the desire I had to sail Allure for a couple of years.

I'd love everyone's opinion especially since I'm a yo-yo right now in trying to pick the right cruise.

Just off the Getaway and we loved her. Getaway is a 7 day cruise FYI.

We had a mini suite and I had spa pass. I used it almost every day and loved it . Came back to the ship early in st Thomas (went out early and was done), I had the whole thing to myself.

The mini suite is not really a suite but a balcony cabin with a larger bathroom. Very large for a cruise ship. But I usually cruise in minis or balcony's never a full suite. So that's my point of reference.

If you book a mini suite on deck 8 or 9 you will have a reasonable sized balcony. If you are in a spa mini on deck 14 or 15 not sure you will have a mico small balcony like most on Getaway.

We were on deck 8 and loved it 2 loungers, 2 chairs a table and more space. I would recommend booking on deck 8 and buying spa passes for 199 each.

The Getaway was great she is beautiful, and lots of fun. Kids loved the ropes course and getaway bounce. Of course the 5 water slides were a HUGE hit too.

We ate in specially dinning all week and enjoyed it very much. Tropicana the MDR got great reviews from guests on our ship.

NCL is a little different more a la carte pricing than on RCCL. I pre book everything but lots of people just wing it. We also get the UDP (119 per person for 7 days) so we can eat in specialty restaurants everyday. It also includes the illusionarium on the first night.

I am sure I just confused you even more but if you have any Getaway questions I will be happy to answer them.

Do you prefer freestyle dining vs. the MDR on RCCL? My wife and I actually like the MDR and getting a big table to meet different people. Also since NCL is more a la carte, do you feel in the end you spend more money on RCCL or NCL?
