charlielinda Posted August 5, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2005 I know many of you don't check the port boards so I'm posting this here also since I've had a hard time finding out information on Acapluco. Any information or assitance is welcome. THANKS! I think I've finally finished all my research on Acapluco and come up with a day for my husband and I. I would love comments and also asking for additional information from anyone that knows the answer. We will be in Acapluco from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. When ships docks immediately get off and find an "official guide" to take us on a 3-4 hour tour. Does anyone know how much this would be? Have the guide drop us off at the Hyatt Hotel to have lunch, relax at the pool and beach. Has anyone gone to the Hyatt for the day? Do you know how much the day pass is? Take a cab back to the ship to change? Does anyone know the fare from the Hyatt back to the port? or Take a cab to the cliff divers and have dinner there. Does anyone know the cost of the cab from the Hyatt to the cliff divers and the cliff divers back to the ship? Well, that's my plan at the moment until I receive comments from all my friends here at CruiseCritic. Please -- any information is helpful! -- linda
JNLROSE Posted August 6, 2005 #2 Share Posted August 6, 2005 We had a van for 10 & a driver for 4 hours--showed us all of the "must sees" for Acapulco PLUS took us to the cliff divers, paid for it & gave us beers, all included in the $50 per couple & that also included a nice tip! You can get drivers right at the pier for very little $$ & they will take you anywhere & speak pretty good english. We're staying 2 full weeks in Acapulco next May & have the names of some private taxi owners that will be there at our call to take care of us then too. Transportation in Acapulco is VERY good, cheap & easy to get!
wv4891 Posted August 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2005 Hi, Your plan looks pretty good, and Rosie is right about Taxis and drivers. Have you looked at the Princess Hotel for your day at the beach??? It is really quite spectacular. It was built in the 70s and sits on, I think, 400 acres. It also has great pools and a really great ocean front beach. It is a little South, in the second bay, but probably the nicest hotel and grounds in Acapulco. JNLROSE Posted August 6, 2005 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2005 You are absolutely right Bill, the Princess is wonderful--we went there for a cold one last trip & we're staying right next door at the Grand Mayan for 2 weeks next May!!! GREAT golf courses & beautiful beaches with all the amenities! :D It DOES take a good 30 minutes to drive from the ship though, so if you go to the Princess, plan accordingly for traffic! ;)

Xoe Posted August 9, 2005 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2005 We were in Acapulco in January, and had a marvelous private tour with Oscar, arranged by Roberto of the Acapulco Port Authority. We'd looked forward to Acapulco the least of all of our ports, and because of Oscar, it was our favorite! He's a careful driver with a comfortable clean air conditioned van, and is a knowledgeable guide who really listens to your questions and shows you what you want to see. We wanted to see where ordinary people lived, and schools, and outdoor markets, in addition to the usual tourist spots -- and we saw it all! If you check the Mexican Riviera board, you will find references to Roberto.
JNLROSE Posted August 9, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 9, 2005 Oscar is who Roberto hooked us up with too! Wonderful man!!! I have Roberto's email if anyone is interested in contacting him! We'll be visiting him again in May when we're there for 2 weeks!
charlielinda Posted August 9, 2005 Author #8 Share Posted August 9, 2005 I've posted with Roberto on the ACA Board but never saw mention of Oscar. Was Roberto able to set you up with Oscar? Did Oscar meet you at the Pier? We are looking for a 4 hour tour, beach, and cliff divers for dinner. Oscar might be just what we are looking for. If you could post Roberto or Oscar's information I'd appreciate it. -- linda

He met me at the gangway and escorted our entire group through the terminal & out front to meet Oscar, who was waiting & ready with the van & the AC turned on. He took us to see all the "must see's" including the cliff divers & a jewelry factory, the Princess, some other wonderful areas, etc. Anything we wanted to see or do! We also went to El Zorito, an authentic Mexican restaurant for lunch! If you'll email me, I will be happy to give you Roberto's email address! Xoe Posted August 9, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 9, 2005 "Ditto" to JNLRose's message. It's a per-hour fee for Oscar (minimum 3 hours as I recall), making it more economical if you have more passengers with you. However, my husband and I went by ourselves, and even though it cost more that way, we really really REALLY liked it, as we could ask to see exactly what we wanted to see, we sat in front with A/C blowing on us (it's hot down there!), we could ask any question that crossed our minds, and could hear and be heard wonderfully well. Also, we're tall (6-4 and 5-11) and were most comfortable with my husband in the front passenger seat, and I in the middle of the next seat, leaning forward between Oskar and my husband. That day's tour was a splurge that was worth every penny/peso. Here's the email address I have for Roberto: roberto.maciel@ssamexico.com (This was in late 2004, and sometimes people change email addresses, but you can check it out, also check the Mexican Riviera boards.)
