Not Scared To Book Anymore!

Ok -

So after my brief scare and careful reading of this fabulous board and a comment made from a previous customer, I am no longer worried about those children things and have decided I am on an early march 06 sailing!

I figured that children should not be an issure since early march is NOT a Holiday (unless unknown school districts celebrate MY Birthday). The product is exactly what I want - easy access to the ocean with nice ports. I am not much of a drinker (two Martini's and I am yours for a dime) and can handle the caviar thing just fine- I am not booking the ships for the caviar, but want a very relaxed and casual atmosphere. After some moments thinking about booking a suite on Celebrity - I woke up and realized how idiotic an idea that was (And imagine worried about children on SD?). I really dont want to be on another ship with 3000 people, I don't want a "Butler" to bring me anything much less have to talk to anyone that calls themeselves a butler on a ship with 3000 people, and I certainly don't want to HAVE to beg someone and give them $200 to get me a table for two. The crowd and fascilities on Seabourne may not be for me, and Windstar - been there done that. So there - I am officially now A Wanna be Seadreamer. Office will get my call on Tuesday AM, and I am sure my credit card will be debited then.

I would not worry about the children - we had several on board and they did not ruin the trip by any stretch of the imagination.

Early March is prime time spring break time so you may have a few wee folks celebrating your birthday with you,

but with the exception of the much discussed cruise from h*** that Jim Avery and co had to suffer through, I think you will have a great time.

This board And Cruise Critic has been a wealth of info and I am sure I will be posting questions but I cannot imagine having many. In truth there simply is nothing out there like Sea Dream. Windstar does come close to second but I am not so interested in those ports. Seadream has great ports. I am not a drama person, and don't need much attention BUT I do prefer freedom which is why I prefer resorts to these ships. Seadream seems to brillianty combine the aspects of a resort with the novelty of swimming and exploring different ports everyday. And I truly value the leaving very late at night so I can get some fun in on land. Having to get to a ship with 3000 people at 4:30 and watching the parade of people getting ready for that dinner production is almost always too much for me to handle.

My partner Chris is NOT a boat or cruise person. The last cruise to Bermuda from New York on Celebrity was a disaster - not that the cruise line did anything wrong, but he could not handle the camp like atmosphere with folks we had very little in common with. On our first night we reported to dinner (as instructed) and sat at a table of 8 with nice enough people. Chris took the menu from the waiter, looked at me and said "I left something in the cabin" and left. For the next six evenings we wound up either eating in the cabin or going to the alternative dining which was truly alternative. The deck was flooded armpit to armpit with people cramming in to get sun, and while everyone was running for a seat to see a show, very very few people bothered to buy a drink at night or spend money in a casino (which was almost always closed due to the extended port time). At almost every instance we were watching the clock, making sure we kept our spa appointments or made sure we got back to eat. This was our fault really but I vowed then never ever to go on those big things. We are too independent minded. I had very little opportunity to engage in water sports - the ships programs were very limited and instead I had to go t a hotel and check out their own offerings which were better and ore in line with what I was looking for. Luckily, the travel agent in bermuda (Chris was with credit card in hand looking to book air back to New York) advised us to just complete the cruise and do what we wanted to do. Still, it was a production!

I don't want crowds, shows, lights and dazzles, I dont need to learn how to fold a napkin or dress up Mr. Michel Roux. All I need is a decent meal, perhas a drink every now and then, and a great port of call.

Thanks Again
