Question about Chilkoot excursion

In Skagway we want to book the White Pass/Yukon trip through Chilkoot. The tour is 7.5 hours. They have a 7:30am train up then bus tour or 8:30am bus first the return by train. Are there pros or con to either? We would like some time to explore Skagway once the tour is over, hopefully check out the cemetery and Reid falls and have a beer at the Red Onion, so we are leaning towards the 7:30. Any opinions? I am concerned the view might be obstructed with fog that early.

You answered your own question. :) I would ask if you could be dropped off at the rail yard, then walk to the Cemetery and back to town. You'll go right by the Red Onion if you are on Broadway.

We did the 7:30 train up last July 1st. The train ride was very clear, a little rain, but no fog. About halfway down on the bus it was extremely foggy. We were unable to even see the suspension bridge or much around us. We we're glad that we picked the train first and Chilkoot. It was an excellent excursion.
