Guest zafra63 Posted June 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted June 29, 2014 Just wondering, so I don't have to get currency when spending a day in Vancouver, while in transit. Like to take the hop on/off bus, would be good if we could use US currency. Love to hear any advice. Thanks. Illyria Posted June 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted June 29, 2014 Many places in tourist-heavy areas (and tourist-oriented activities) will take US dollars but will either ask for exact change or give change in Canadian dollars.

Sent from my iPad using Forums Most of the tourist attractions and many restaurants will take US currency and give change in Canadian. The McDonald's in town today posted the exchange rate at par. If you arrive on any day but Sunday, you can go into any bank and change some money. I think the current rate is $1.04cdn for $1.00us when selling US. It's $1.09cdn to buy $1.00us. Unless you're dropping hundreds of dollars I wouldn't sweat it.
no fuss travel Posted June 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2014 If you have a credit card, use it to pay for the HOHO bus. You will get a better exchange rate that way. Anywhere you go, credit cards are generally accepted and the credit card companies give you a better break. Most stores do not give you as good of a deal as they have to pay commission to the banks when they deposit foreign exchange at several of our banks.
