buchhalm Posted July 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted July 10, 2014 We just returned from a cruise that had a Kirwall stop. Here are several cute shops around the cathedral area. We were in town on a Thursday, but one of the shop owners said that nearly all businesses will adopt their opening times to accommodate cruise ships in port. She said that they will grsb business whenever they can. :-) There are also some quite big supermarkets (Al I / Lidl / The Co-Operative) a few minutes walk from the main attractions in town. The Highland Park whisky destillery does not conduct public tours unit around the end of June. They are undergoing some renovations. The cruise lines MAY have special arrangements. The destilleries gift shop IS open, but all the stuff can be found in town as well. We rented a car for the day and drove around ourselves, pretty much against the flow of all the ship's tour buses. Driving around is easy, once you get used to some very narrow country lanes.
