POA Nonsmoking Question

Recommended Posts

We would love to take a POA cruise (the reviews sound wonderful), but are very allergic to smoke (love Celebrity and Princess for their policies on nonsmoking balconies!). So, a couple of questions for recent POA cruisers. First, are the balconies/suites at the very front of the ship less smoky? We have also wondered if we book an ocean view on Deck 4 (where there are no balconies) if that floor is smoke free? Also, how about other public areas on the ship both inside and outside... is it easy to avoid smoking areas?

Please know that I'm not in any way seeking a debate about smoking... but we would love some advice from those who have recently cruised on the POA on how we might be able to enjoy this cruise! Thanks in advance!

The POA spends a lot of time sitting in port, so if you are on your balcony front or aft and there is a smoker on a near by balcony and the ship is not moving you will probably smell smoke. I have smelled cigarettes in the front and back balconies. That said the POA has no casino so you don't get smoke smell from there as you might on other ships. A cabin with no balcony might work for you.

All cabins on any NCL ship are non smoking. Smoking is currently allowed only on balconies and other designated smoking areas such as open decks and the casino. Smoking in or near restaurants is prohibited. ( POA has no casino ). As deck 4 has no balcony cabins, there would be no smoking on that deck.

And yes, the POA does spend a lot of time in port, but most people will probably be off the ship seeing Hawaii the entire time. When you ARE on the ship, it will be moving to the next port. We have an aft facing balcony booked and are hoping for the best. The problem in my mind with port and starboard cabins are that any smoke drifts backwards due to the forward motion of the ship. I guess if you were forward facing at the very front of the ship you would be pretty safe. No 100% guarantees anywhere.
