Had To Change Cabins

Can't answer for all of their ships but on our last two cruises on the Dream and Freedom, you had to be playing the slots or at a table to be in the smoking section of the casino already. If you were just standing there having a cigarette, they ask you to leave or start playing.

On the Dream this past June you could smoke at the casino bar on one side which many were doing and this surprised me as you were not allowed to smoke unless you were gambling or playing the slots.

Same deal on my Splendor cruise 2 years ago.

This was Carnival Splendors policy when I cruised her 2 years ago, every time I smoked without gambling I was asked to put it out even when i purchased a drink in the casino.

Tell them "I'll put it out when the wiater/waitress returns with my drink order". You'll have plenty of time to finish your cigarette. Especially if you have a Drinks on Us card. The rules have changed and so has the game.

Then you are not an ex-smoker.

I agree fully with you on this!

Every smoker has a different smoking tolerance that requires time periods that they are not smoking.

If a pack or 2 a day smoker is classed as a real smoker to an occasional smoker then what is an occasional smoker classed as by a once in a blue moon smoker:confused:

Every person who smokes no matter how much or little is a smoker, those that claim to be ex smokers and still have the occasional smoke have just conditioned their withholding period to longer than others who smoke more than them or why else would they bother to smoke at all:confused:

Some smokers who limit themselves to "Occasional" even preach to other smokers who smoke more than them about the dangers of smoking and especially carry on about the smell when they are not smoking themselves:confused:

People are either a non smoker or a smoker there is nothing in between:)

I no longer smoke cigarettes but vape instead so my most recent Dream cruise it didnt bother me much but on the Splendor 2 years ago some of the drinks waitstaff in the casino would not have taken you suggestion as a valid reason not to extinguish! I was chastised even when I had been playing a machine and drinking for smoking while looking around for another suitable machine.

On the Pride back in June, my sister and I (both non-smokers) were playing machines in the casino. We understand people will smoke while playing but...these 2 woman were standing next to us and not using any machines. Rather than blow there smoke at each other, they blew it right at us:eek: I asked then to stop. They gave me a look but they did move on.

Another option could be smoking floors (decks) like in a hotel. Or make one side of the ship smoking. Then at least people would be aware that others near them could possibly be smoking (on their balcony only)

That's a good idea. Making a specific deck smoking or one side of the ship smoking would be a good compromise. This way smokers still get to enjoy their smokes surrounded by fellow smokers that won't be bothered by it. And non smokers know for sure they have smoke free neighbors and balconies. Looks like a win win situation. I wish carnival were listening.

The story will never end for you guys:) As you will surly follow Australia's lead!

On Australian ships and sailings smoking is banned on all balconies and in all inside areas and this includes in some cases wind protected areas like many just above Lido main pool areas.

Smoking areas with table and chairs are now at a premium to many smokers who rise early and claim that table for their smoking group, smokers take it in turns to have a break from that table but always leave them occupied to a point, a bit like CHOGS but the difference is they will welcome any smoker to join them on any unoccupied chair at any time creating large groups of never ending rotating totally full smoking areas day and night, some even choosing nightly buffet over MDR bringing the food back to the smoking tables in turns.

This has caused some problems and much complaint from non smokers and smokers alike because the smoke and smell is now very concentrated in certain areas of the ship and is in fact much worse than when smokers had more options to let their smoke fully dissipate thus much less offensive to non smokers and children. Hallways near the main smoking areas may as well be smoking as the smoke and smell travels into those enclosed areas when the doors open.

Small standing only smoking areas are confined to wind swept areas of the ship high and aft and a very un enjoyable experience for any smoker causing them in the end to opt for the main smoking area and join a smoking group taking it in turns to stand and sit..

Many staunch anti smoking cruisers are demanding the right to freely access any area of the ship without spoiling their enjoyment this includes the dedicated smoking areas so it will never end;)

Read my post above #32! It would not work because many anti smoking cruisers will continue to demand the right to access all ships allowed areas without spoiling their enjoyment this includes whichever side of the ship they prefer over another for everything and to choose their cabin location as they see fit, these complaints in turn seem to make many other non smokers jump in and join with the demands just as is happening in USA with the start of more strict cruise ship area smoking restrictions.

I doubt most if not all popular cruiselines will ban smoking totally as the seemingly constant drink sales to the smoking areas is very evident over the non smoking areas of the ships in Australia with many non smokers also complaining about drunken rowdy behaviour from those smoking areas.

Yeah you're probably right. Smoking is continually being banned everywhere, not just on cruise ships. And once they ban smoking they never go back. Even though it often creates controversy. We saw a similar situation regarding smoking in the restaurants in our city and numerous surrounding cities. At first they limited smoking to certain areas of the restaurants or businesses. Then they eliminated smoking in the restaurants altogether but you could smoke outside. Then they made it to where you couldn't smoke within a certain amount of feet from the entrance to the restaurants because the smoke blows in. Smokers protested and there was lots of heated debates. But the restaurants still got lots of customers and thrived financially so the change was eventually accepted. I imagine the same will most likely be true of the cruising industry.
