Annmeat- hey, thanks for doing this review. We were also in an H4 and our teens spent zero time in the Haven.

FWIW, it was pretty full but not crowded , with those speedo types you mentioned. They did encounter some canoodling seniors in the"big" Haven pool and that was a visual that they couldn't unsee.

We also met Mr Jack Weed on day 2. He and Mrs Weed were very upset that Weed Jr was not allowed to be served hard liquor, even with their permission. They had their music device, of course, and went on and on and on an about this...I finally just left the sun deck...

Anyway, your review was awesome. My kids were on the slides, in Entourage or the arcade, playing trivia , wandering about, eating...they just didn't utilize the Haven . My husband and I spent very little time there. DH is not a sun worshiper

We will absolutely go back on Getaway. We missed Maho so I would like to go before the itinerary changes, but may have to wait for Escape. Tortola has amazing snorkeling. And we can live with that,

Regarding Royal

Also, don't apologize for protecting your child . I would have been furious about the smoke. We had no problems ( had 106) until we were in Nassau. We were isolated but the smoke from either below or the side, even with the very slight breeze, or maybe it was from Vibe- it got pretty smelly. But that Nassau day seems quite hot and nasty. We got off just to take a few pictures. We have been too many times and just wanted to play on the slides.it was like you said, a private water park

My kids said they saw Sheehan . I thought they were trying to see if those two DODs I had were messing with my head!!

May we cruise together again and actually speak more than a "hello"- I can picture your family- the really curly haired blonde boy. He had a ukulele on night, didn't he? A medium daughter and the dark eyed , squeezable son.

Take care

Well, it depends. I think that I saw him several times. So did 3Shar and I think DrNora. My kids DID see him ...but then didn't.

The rumors were buzzing, but they were playing " Undercover Boss" on the NCL channel on board. I think that he was on in Miami and then left on St Thomas.

Wish someone really knew....I like to think that he was there, singing along with us at Howl at the Moon!

But WHERE does he sleep?

We were on the cruise with you and he was definitely on the ship. He sat at the table next to us in the Tropicana Dining Room to view the Burn The Floor Dancer's performance during dinner. Our waiter confirmed that it was him.

Also want to say thanks for your delightful review. We were also in the Haven and we must have sat near you in the Illusiarium as we were at table #12. Our experience was much like yours in that we really enjoyed this cruise. Much more so than the one on the Breakaway last July. We are going back on the Epic in January. Just want to go on the Epic one more time out of Miami before she goes back to Europe to stay. We were on her for a back-to-back in the Mediterranean but it was a totally different vibe than out of Miami. The Epic is still our favorite NCL Ship. I think the Haven area on the Epic is still the nicest.

Thank you for your great and funny reviews. We are on Getaway in January '15 and I always like to get "the little secrets" about ships before we sail - I added a few to my list from your reviews. (Especially Benadryl on excursions - we are planning on the Champagne Sail also). Hope your leg is much better now. And as you said early on, YOU make your vacation - get out there and enjoy it. Thanks again!!

Annmeat:

Just got on the Getaway right after you got off. Returned this past Sat. On Mr Sheehan, yes, it WAS HIM, indeed. During our behind the scenes tour we did as Platinum members, Jamie the cruise consultant, told us he got on at St Thomas. In fact, he would walk around talking to passengers as if he was first-time cruiser to get a feel for what they thought was good/bad about the cruise. On your cruise, the #1 complaint he heard was the Noon arrival in Nassau didn't allow enough time to do anything significant. So, 1 week later on our cruise, we arrived in Nassau at 10am, 2 hours earlier...that's process improvement in action, folks! But, like you, we stayed on baord and had a blast on the water slides with zero lines!

Next-

Things my husband NEVER thought he would hear me say!!!

I have never in my adult life cruised in a non-suite.

You do not need one on this ship.

SAVE YOUR MONEY AND DO A BACK TO BACK!!

Or two cruises!

THAT's RIGHT-I SAID IT!!!

We used the Haven for sleeping.

Eating breakfast. THAT IS IT!! Dinner a few times.

Yes, the staff are lovely, attentive- sweet.

But the Getaway isn't a sleepy ship as are the Jewel, Pearl, Gem.

She needs us to be out and about.

For a family of 5 there a limited options if you like to bunk together. On Royal and NCL and Disney we have always chosen the 2BR suites. Royal's suites offer zip in the way of special treatment except for a cocktail hour and a goodie now and the. Yes, priority debark, blah blah blah. Just a ruse on RCL!

NCL does the suite life right. You USUALLY don't want to leave the Haven. EXCEPT ON THE GETAWAY. We are not twenty-something sun worshipers, the teens are too old to hangout with the kiddies in the pool..and there is a TON to do on Getaway.

On our particular sailing the Haven pool was filled with sun worshippers and children, and the pools with older , scantily-clad European couples. Without giving details, use your Spongebob IMAGINATION (SPEEDO SPEEDO SPEEDO). It was interesting. Everyone was friendly, but there were many "avert your gaze" moments. Times that I was thankful for VERY DARK sunglasses!!Poor Daphne had some moments of sheer mortification, and Brad received some inadvertent physics lessons re: bikini tops and 68 year olds.

If you are traveling as a family, the slides themselves, as well as the other activities for kids, are enough incentive to skip the Haven. I know, I know- wash that mouth out with soap!!

I guess a better way to put it- when I read a Haven-Ravin' Review- now I feel almost sad- because those people missed so much!!!GET OUT THERE - (OMG!! ROYAL CARIBBEAN IS GONNA SUE ME!!) have a lobster roll!! Go on a slide! Play Deal or no Deal! Gamble! Sing! Shop! Bid on SOMETHING!! Have a mojito!Bowl! Play a game of Ping Pong! Hide that silver, Haven card and be a part of the SHIP!!!!Hang out at Sugarcanes and meet some friends-new ones! Talk to JC Sanchez!! See what's up with Frank!!And, yes, even Haven folk can wander into SPice H2o!!

Bowl. We had a BLAST on that little bowling alley. We laughed so hard- and we drew an audience!!! TRY IT- loved the pub feel at O'sheehans. EVERYONE seems friendly. Cheers on steroids.

Sorry. Lecture over.

Next trip I plan to see Burn the Floor. Eat at Flamingo and the MDRs. Go to Tropicana. Go to ALL THREE NITES of HOWLat the MOON.

Actually DO the drop slide.

See Legally Blonde-maybe.

Do the circus training.

Have a mojito flight.

And maybe another one.

Wear SOCKS to the ice bar. I LOVED the icebar. I left very quickly. It was FUN!!

Go to the Grammy Experience for an ENTIRE SHOW!!!

Watch the crew variety show.

Win a GIANT JACKPOT in the Casino.

Avoid invisible jellyfish.

Sing Karaoke. Really!

Eat at O'Sheehans- never tried the pot pie!!

Do trivia- never did trivia, and I'm a trivia WIZ!! We ALWAYS win!!

Walk the Plank.

Zip line.

If anyone has any questions, just ask.

I know that I am gushing, but we enjoyed this cruise immensely. We are already booked again for next year in mini suite connecting to one of those angled -balcony family balcony rooms. I am SURE that i can find something to spend the savings on!!

Thanks for listening!!!

Annmeat

Hi - Just wanted to say thanks for your review. I am sailing on the Breakaway in a few weeks and since I've read everything i can about her i figured the Getaway is close enough, I'll read these too. OK and your Kevin Sheehan comment caught my attention having just watched Undercover Boss. I will admit when i started reading it and you started ranting about "dark wood" and hating it I thought...Well it's not important want I thought. Anyway i kept reading and saw you really have a great sense of humor and it made the review very pleasant to read. Then came the post i have quoted here.....this is the BEST single post I have ever read by anyone staying in a suite. It really shows what kind of people you are and I'm glad you enjoyed your trip so much and I hope to enjoy mine just as much. Thanks again.

Amo-

I thought the same thing-

Why is she b$&@"& about wood when she has a Haven suite?

Oops!

Forgot my manners there for a while.

And those Sunday School lessons about judging.

Thank you for the review

I have met too many Mr Weeds and Guava Boys and speedo people not to be drawn in

May just have to come back to NCL

I DO love Miami

Have an amazing day, Annmeat

I dying to know what your screen means.

Betty

Happy cruising !!! Betty Trouble

If you are going to go to the Glow Party, bring a bunch of Glow sticks I ordered 100 from Amazon - wish that i had brought 300! We passed them out to all the little kids who couldn't reach the ones that the cruise staff gave out at the party. They were so HAPPY!!!!

That is one of the best tips/ideas I've read on CC. I am sure you made a lot of kiddos happy that night. Way to go! :D

  • 9 months later...

just finished reading this review . A bunch of people saw or sat next to or thought they say Kevin Sheehan on Geatway last summer. Another reviewer heads him spotted in March of 2014.

Any frank del rio sightings?

To the Op

You are cruising soon you posted. Cannot Wait to see how your next Getaway compares with this review of your first Getaway cruise.
