  1. 1. What do you think Carnival should show on the Lido big screen during football season?

    • Show the Sunday night and Monday night games on the big screen
      144
    • Show the scheduled big screen movies and only show the games in the sports bars, etc.
      72
    • I don't care. I prefer the shows, music venues, and comedy club instead.

This! On the money right here! and lets not forget the popularity of fantasy football as well. So even people who may not be able to watch their favorite local team onboard are still interested in the games that are being shown and seeing scores and stats from other games to follow their fantasy teams.

NFL Red Zone + Lido Deck = Cruise Orgasm!

Used to be Denver affiliate and now it is Miami affiliate, at least on the east coast. Not sure about west coast departures. While down in the Caribbean, we have picked up the USVI affiliate many times, and a majority of it was in Spanish.

Miami in the West coast too (3 hours earlier)

I agree with showing in the sport bar and in the rooms. Besides the NFL is nothing but cry babies, if you want to see real football SEC rules!

So true, Luke, but we gotta have somethin' to do on Sundays too! Lol.

I say show all the games It would save me a lot of money, not being in the Casino

This.

On the cruise I'm taking in October, the Sunday night (which is at the end of a day at sea) is Giants v. Eagles. Which has quite a few Redskins implications. I need to be far away from any gaming machines because I stress gamble.

Generally despise the NFL in general these days but Sunday and Monday night football is part of American culture, sorry to say. And most Carnival cruisers out of US ports are American so it makes sense. Even people who really don't follow football often watch on Sunday and Monday nights, just because it brings people together around a single event and people socialize while watching the game. So yes, Carnival should air these games on the lido big screen TVs. Hope John Heald is paying attention to this thread and the 2-1 results in favor of showing the games.....

Somebody also said they never show the Stanley Cup games. They showed Boston/Chicago in 2013 on the Glory because of a lot of Bruins fans onboard and cancelled the evening movies that were scheduled to do so. Pretty cool. They showed Phillies/NYY in 2009 and Phillies/SFO Giants NLCS in 2010 on lido as I was told at least. So if there is an event with enough appeal and enough people request it to be shown, they will air lots of stuff they normally wouldn't.

Seriously, if you show, football, than you need to show all sports. Football, has to be one of the most boring, and long drawn out games in organized sports. It is definitely, not the most popular sport in the world, and to think that it would be a good idea to use a such a public space to alienate the majority on cruisers to please the few, would be silly. Keep sports in the sports bar, and keep the big screens for family entertainment.

It may not be the most popular in the world (because they play it almost nowhere else in the world) but it is FAR AND AWAY the most popular sport in the United States where 95% of all Carnival cruises originate. So they should def be showing it on Lido.

And no it certainly does not mean that you have to show "all" other sports. Give your customers what they want which is football, but let's not get carried away showing golf to tennis or anything without a huge following on the Lido screen.

Huh? Whats footballs popularity with the rest of the world got to do with it being shown onboard a ship leaving form a USA based port, with a majority of it's passengers being from the USA? Like it or not, football is hugely popular in the USA. Not sure where by doing this, the majority of cruisers would be alienated. As this thread shows along with the poll, most are in favor of it...not that this is scientific and it's accuracy 100%....but it's close!! And for SOME families, watching football IS family entertainment.

You'd be pleasing way more than a few. In Nov, football on the big screen outweighed the movies by a long shot. Also football is family entertainment in my house.

Case study of one. And you are quite simply wrong. From Labor Day 2013, through the end of 2013, NFL accounted for 30 of the top 31 programs in ALL OF TELEVISION BROADCASTS. That means, across the USA, only 1 episode of another TV show broke into the top 31 tv airings... And it was the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Its ranking? 20th!!!!

So, to make your statement true, you are basically saying that a majority of carnival cruisers, are not tv watchers. Do you believe that? I dont. Therefore, based on actual data, the majority of TV watching cruisers, are MORE INTERESTED in watching the NFL than anything else.

While we are on the topic, ill share a funny story with you guys about this...

A couple of cruises ago, we had a very fun day at one of the Western Ports, where we ventured to an all inclusive resort for the day. We had 8 of us in our party. Upon getting back to the boat, some of us decided to take a nap. Anyways, the plan was to get up and the group go to dinner that night. I told my roommate that I would meet him there. I guess at some point, the group found out that they were playing Monday night football on the lido deck and decided to skip dinner and watch that. My roommate never told me this... Or maybe he did, but I was sleeping, I dont remember waking up to acknowledge. haha.

Anyways, I set a wakeup call and my roommate isnt in the room. I get showered and ready and head to dinner. I wait at an 8 top table for people to arrive... 15 minutes after the start of dinner, nobody shows up. I order dinner and eat alone, lol. I later find them out on the deck partying and watching football. We all had a good laugh.

Did you know that FSU played the weakest schedule of any champion in the BCS era? Why? Because they got to play other ACC teams! :D

Wow,you must miss Spurrier(spell).

Reguardless of schedule,a win is a win

and a perfect season means something.

Fla.Gators can go undefeated till they play

the Noles, then we'll see who the best team is.

I will say SEC is strong, but the ACC is a little

stronger.

I agreed with everything you said here except the last sentence. Not even close. SEC!

Interesting stats. I knew that football was a high dollar event for advertising, but I did not realize how much of a monopoly it had as far as viewers.

In my house we watch football every Sunday. For me that usually involves DH parked on the couch and me making lunch or supper, doing laundry, folding laundry, on the lap top or something as well as "watching" (I multi-task!). DH usually wants at least some of the Saturday (college) games but I usually make him do other things like errands or something. Also luckily for me, he is an usher at Mizzou home games, so several weeks of the college season he is working. On those days I may tune into the games for a little to check the score or listen on the radio in my car, but I don't really watch. I like football, but I breathe a little sigh of relief in February because I get to watch all my DVR shows, once Saturday Sunday, Monday and Thursday or not consumed with football.

I think they should do it as a trial for a while on a couple of ships. Just see how it goes. I have honestly NEVER watched a movie on the big screen. The couple of times that I walked through the area while a movie was playing, there was a handful of people there, but not packed. My opinion is that they can show movies the other nights or after the game. I would probably limit it to NFL, Sunday night and Monday only though, to keep things balanced.
