There is probably some kind of convention going on....The Essence Fair is over but it is impossible to get a hotel during that time for sure.

My best advice is to look in suburbs of area, like over Lake Pontchartrain like Lacombe. Covington, Slidell. or even Metairie.

Good luck!

If you go to lastminutetravel DOT com, put in NOLA and then specify convention center, it's bringing up two different hotels. One is $71 and the other is $110. You can find out what the hotels are by calling the toll free number.

I booked the Hilton Garden Inn through lastminutetravel last year and got a great deal. It's just a couple of blocks from the port. When we got up the following morning, we could see the Whale Tail of the Conquest from our hotel window!!!

Hope this helps! ;)

Ok everyone! I'm the idiot that waited until now to get a hotel in New Orleans. We are flying in on Thursday. Why is everything either sold out or soo expensive? Any ideas for the procrastinator?

Hilton Riverside is a great Hotel. Less than 5 minutes to the port.

Looks like they are sold out for 10/11/2014. I would call them to make sure , they may have something. Good luck..

This happened to me and we stayed in a Best Western in Algiers.

It has a pool in a courtyard and was quite nice.

A lot of people don't think of staying on the other side of the river.

Thank you! We are flying in from CA on a Thursday, so we will be there for three nights. Is it easily accessible to "everything"?

There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance. There is a walgreens a couple of blocks away. They do have a free shuttle during the day that will take you to the river ferry that crosses the river and drops you off right on Canal Street by the Harrah's Casino.

This is one I would avoid, based upon my past experience and reviews.

We are currently booked at a hotel in metarie due to parking. But I am still shopping hotels. I saw one on groupon a couple of weeks ago. We are just staying Sunday night though.

I was in NOLA a few months ago right after all star weekend. I stayed at the La Quinta Inn on Camp street, I was there 3 nights and paid a little over $300 (AAA). My king size room with microwave and fridge was HUGE and very clean and comfy. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

I wanted to add that it is walking distance (1 block off canal street) to the Quarter and to Harrah's (2 or 3 blocks down) where my dad stayed. My room was bigger then his at Harrah's so i feel i got the better deal :)

Wyndam Riverside is a great little hotel . Right across from the Hilton where the trolley stops going to the French Quarter. Couple blocks from Harrahs. You can see the ships from there. It's a little older but nice and clean, great staff. About half the cost of the Hilton. Go to dinner at Drago's at the Hilton. You won't be disappointed.

The Hotel Monteleone is wonderful! It is a historic hotel in the heart of the French Quarter. It is huge and therefore doesn't book up like other places, even during special events. It is pricey, bit worth it for one night. They also let you book just the one night when other French Quarter hotels often have a 3-night minimum.

I stayed at the Bienville House on Decatur Street in the Quarter. Great location, good service, nice room, affordable. For the cruise itself, I parked in the Fulton St garage, which was considerably less than port parking, and it included a round trip shuttle right to the port, which was 5 mins away. Enjoy your stay in Nola! It's fun!

We had the same problem. We ended up at Quality Inn & Suites Maison St Charles. Area was safe enough, just make sure you go the correct way on the streetcar. We were discouraged to travel down the other way at night.

The taxis find it easier if you call it the Maison St Charles.

It's several saved buildings converted to hotel rooms.

***

We ended up paying a bit more than we wanted to but it was worth it not having to deal with figuring out how to get back to the hotel late at night.

Apparently the Saints are playing each weekend in October, so the hotel rates are high. I actually found the La Qunita on I-10 Service Road in Metairie, and paying $89 for the night (AARP rate). I heard it's not too far from the Port, and although it's a commercial area, we are there only for the night.

Walking distance close, probably not.

But in a car very close.

The bridge is right there where the boat docks and it was a few minutes from the bridge.

I don't know how far it is to the ferry to the French Quarter.

We were thinking of doing it, but we did not get in early enough and were only there for one night, but it sounds like fun.

What do you want to do for your three days?

Will you have a car?

If you want to visit some of the River

Road plantation houses you might want to stay in that area.

Oh, I signed up for Groupon for New Orleans and I get some interesting touristy offers. Ghost and swamp tours and all that.

We get in late Thursday night, so we have Friday and Saturday. I still don't have a room, but yes, we want to tour New Orleans experience as much as we can.

I've been once with my company for a convention, but no tours or anything. My husband has never been.

I signed up for Groupon! Great idea.
