Quick question for the experts - the deck plans on cunard.com show Britannia Club DR on only port side of the ship. Is this correct? I know that there was a similar space on starboard - does it not exist any more?

Where does one "report" to for dinner on day 1 to be seated?

It is only on the port side and you will have a card in your cabin with your table number, take it with you to the Maitre d's desk and you'll be escorted to the table. It is a fairly uninspiring place in my view but I've never eaten there.

Britannia Club is only on the port side after-end of the Britannia Restaurant. You can enter by walking through the Britannia Restaurant on 2 Deck or near the "D" stairwell. The space on the starboard side is part of the main restaurant.

I recommend that you ask for a table in the back room of the BC. It's much more quiet than the forward room which gets a high volume of spill over noise from the Britannia Restaurant.

Just a power walk from the Commodore Club ... straight along a to D Stairwell and down. I swear that walk, and the one back to our staterooms on deck 12, kept us from gaining weight on our crossing in June.

We had a table for 6 in the corner of the "back room" of the BC and it was indeed a quiet spot. To get a taste of the main restaurant, I'd recommend attending a wine tasting held there - the restaurant is empty but the tasting is held in the area under the tapestry so a nice place to appreciate the space (and a wine or three).

Dined in the BC a couple of years back. Had a table for 6 be a window, middle of the dining room. Noise from the MDR was not an issue. In any large dining room, there will be ambient background noise, I think Cunard did well in shielding outside influence.

So on the first night go to the maître d at the main restaurant or proceed directly to bc? I appreciate the clarification of only port side.

To whomever let me know that this is where I will dine - ah - yes I know. I was asking some rather specific questions.

I appreciate the tip bat the back area. I don't enjoy extra ambient noise.

And to whomever suggested I dine in the main dr - I've sailed on qm before and was lucky enough to have a very well situated table. I have great appreciation for the space but am looking forward to a different experience in bc.

Thx again to all.

I was in Britannia Club once and found it to be very pleasant. The restaurant is quite intimate, and the service and food were very good.

Same here. I did the July 6 eastbound and the July 21 westbound TAs. Views out the windows are far better than either Grills restaurant (have eaten in both). Saw whale spouts one day...

Being a confirmed Rower, I'm certainly no expert on QM2 Britannia Club, but we did have accommodations there once years ago...

If I remember correctly, we took the lift on Stairway D to Deck 2, and then walked a few steps to the Britannia Club Dining Room. No need to walk through the MDR which is a high traffic area, unless that is more convenient.

Our experience of Britannia Club was memorable, and I hope you enjoy it as much as my husband and I enjoyed the excellent service and wonderful dining companions.:) - S.

Edited to add: Britannia Club has its own maître d'

No, it'a head waiter.

Not when I was in Britannia Club years ago. There was definitely a maitre d'. His name, I can't recall at the moment, but he did a fine job.

Has that position been eliminated?

The BC head waiter is usually at a desk just inside the D Stairwell entrance - we arrived via the main restaurant on the first night simply because we didn't know the other one existed at that point (newbies!). He greeted us when we arrived for most meals.

Of course sometimes he will be doing this ....

which almost the entire "back room" ordered on the last night .. he was looking a bit tired by the end...

(apologies for poor quality photo)

Here:

QM2 The Britannia Club Restaurant (1)

is the main entrance to the QM2 Britannia Club Restaurant on the port side of the "D" stairs and lift lobby, Deck 2.

(As has been noted, you can also access BC via the main Britannia Restaurant)

Happy sailings to all dining there :)

Yes, we do enjoy the regularly in the Grill.

In the mid 70s during the international fashion show in my hotel the Maitre d' didn't manage to avoid the sprinkler sensor. I went through a lot of discussions...

Cunard has only one Maitre d' in charge on a ship. I remember a head waiter from Kystrin/Poland. He had been in charge for the BC in 2008 and was later promoted to F&B-Manager. He has left Cunard in 2012 for the benefir of his young family. He did a very good job on QM2.

Yes there is one Head Maitre d’ (whose photo appears on a wall with other officers on board) but there is also a Senior Maitre d’ in Britannia who you go and see in the afternoon on embarkation day if you want to change your table.

The list of officers on Cunard’s website shows the following for the QM2:

Senior Maitre D’ - I Mujakic – 9/5/14 – 18/8/14

T Kerei – 22/6/14 – 8/10/14 (Assistant Maitre d’)

When we were on board in June, I Mujakic was on the lower level in Britannia but I forget the name of the assistant Maitre d’ on the upper level. Presumably the Grills also have their own Maitre d’/Assistant Maitre d’ ?

Inflation of titles. Forget about the seniors and juniors...

Thanks Mariposa!! This was exactly what I was wanting to know. I like knowing how things work/what to expect.
