CanWeGoYet? Posted August 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) I am planning a cruise to Japan next month, & wondering if anyone can advise whether I will have trouble with Customs if I enter with pre-wrapped gifts. Are they likely to tear open my gift packages when I clear Customs getting off the ship? I will be meeting many of my family members, and in Japan you don't appear empty handed. I guess I could buy gifts for them on my port days ahead of disembarking & ask the clerks to gift wrap them. I don't know if that would produce the same results though as entering the country with my own gift wrapped packages. I know my female relatives would prefer some nice Estee Lauder or such from the US, & my uncle loves Starbucks. I have at least 8 people to buy for so hoping to save some $ buying in the US. Alessandrina Posted August 7, 2014 #2 Share Posted August 7, 2014 I don't forsee any problems at all with wrapped gifts - no one goes through your backpack, for example when you leave the ship for the day in port. Cheers.
