Interesting review. Glad that you and your son enjoyed the cruise.

I have a question about the location of the window suite. Was it a far distance to get to an outside deck?

We usually book a balcony cabin or mini suite so that fresh air is accessible.

We would like to try a WS, but need to know that we could get to outside area easily.

Any info would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi MjSailors:

I think there are actually 3 Princess ships that have these WSs so their location maybe different.

For the CB, one flight up via the Piazza stairs is the Promenade Deck. 2 minute walk from our WS maybe, you can then go outside and have all the fresh air you want.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for a grand review. We will be on CB next week. And in a WS for the first time. Loved the pics and have taken notes on what to do and not do.

I did read another post that said the trip in a WS was spoiled by smokers in Churchill Lounge. Did you notice that odor?

I wish Princess had WSs on all their ships. The balconies are wasted for us because of skin cancers.

Retiringworkingstiff,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Would you happen to have any of the sheets that list what takes place during the day? Or a brief summary of the activities?

How did your 21 year old son like it? Did he meet people his age?

Thank you!

Hi jb456:

- I am heading into the office in about an hour, I will scan them. Yes ... it's Labour Day stat holiday here but having my own business affords me that flexibility. Only problem is I don't know how to upload jpgs onto this site properly, they always ended up thumbnail size, as evidenced by my initial post (so give me some time).

- our 21 year old? Other than the Fantasy, our very first cruise, he enjoyed all the cruises listed under my signature below in an over context. He wasn't born when we did the Fantasy, that was our honeymoon cruise, 3 (or maybe 4) nights. Inside room but we thoroughly enjoyed that trip.

Well, let's just say his verdict is, by overall level of enjoyment and based on the limited number of cruises we had done together:

- Celebrity/Princess (almost tied), Celebrity has a slight edge. Me, not too sure about that, they are tied.

- RCCI - Allure of the Seas (we had connecting balconies), he had his own. I wouldn't complain if I were him either.

- Carnival

To be honest, we didn't spend too much time doing things together on the CB. I think he went to the gym twice a day. Me, not so much, with a drink in hand, I am good! He also took in the daily movie, I believe they had that in the theatre. In a way, he is old school like his old man not a party animal (not saying that's good or bad but we are just not PAs). We did spend about 2 1/2 hours talking about life, my motto in life is "as long as you tried your best without bending the rules, so what if you the results are not what you envisioned. You gave it all and learn how to do better next time". He really enjoyed that heart to heart talk. Father and son, I said "make sure we buy mommy something", he took on the project, bought a small purse at one of the shops onboard, $120 or something. Both me and my wife know that particular well known brand is kinda dated nowadays, but it showed that he cared, good for him.

Father knows son, he is an up and coming (CPA, CA), CPA equivalent in the US of A. He doesn't show his feelings too much, maybe he learned from his old man (same profession). Most accountants are like that! I didn't expect him to look for anyone in his age group per se. I know he did spent sometime keeping in touch with his chums in Toronto while we were cruising, he did exhaust his 460 minutes' internet package that we each signed up for, I know that.

I went up to (I think it's called) the Sky Walker lounge while we had our first Sea Day, the place looked very nice, I could feel the action there at night. Don't know if son went up there? I am usually in bed by 11 pm.

Just for the fun of it, I slipped the waiter a $20 tip after finishing up at the Crown Grill. I did it the old fashion way ... curled up the $20 bill, put it inside my palm, shook hands with the waiter, $20 changed hands, magic! Son got a kick out of that. He said maybe that's why the Matrie D (sp) was quite accommodating which I made a second booking there, same booth by the window, same waiter and prime time.

BTW, skipping the MDR on formal night was his idea because he didn't bring his jacket. I told him with his nice shirt, a tie which he brought, his black pants and nice pair of leather shoes, maybe they will let us in. Well he said he rather not, no problem I said, we ordered off the MDR menu as part of the suite perks.

I know he enjoyed himself. That said, he likes to try the Quantum of the Seas (sp) for his next cruise. Me and Mrs. is keeping an eye on deals on the Regal Princess.

Wow! Another long winded response ... sorry!

I believe the only way to get a large size picture on these boards is to first upload the pictures to a photo sharing website. Then you can copy the picture to the cruise critic board. As long as the picture stays on the Internet location you uploaded to it will show up on cruise critic.

Here are some "how to" links:

I was on the same cruise, so I found it very interesting to read of someone else's perspective. We were not in a suite (Plain old balcony for us). We too had Sanctuary passes for the cruise duration, but used them every day, nearly all day (Brief cool offs in the Lotus Spa pool, or using the Thermal Suite). I find it interesting that you didn't consider the pool crowded, at times I felt people were packed like sardines. However, the hot tubs were often empty. My past experience has been the other way around.

Hi jb456:

Patters ...

I have never done file sharing on the web, I am trying for the first time Google Drive, see if the following links work:

Thank you for the info!

My DH and I have sailed on the CB several times and we will most likely sail on that ship again in the near future.

Good to know about the proximity of the Promenade deck to the WS.

We like to take our daily walks there when we are on a cruise.

Thanks for the heads up.

I tried out Google Drive for the first time and uploaded the Patters (post #39), if it works, I am going to try uploading some pics over there.

Hi dorisis:

Smell of cigar/cigarette smoke while inside our WS cabin ...

I actually posted a thread here on CC a while ago wondering about the same thing. Due to the proximity of Churchill's to the WSs, I worried if the smell would "float over" to our cabin. A number of members were kind enough to advise "nothing to worry about".

Now whether we lucked out this time I really can't say. There was hardly anyone at Churchill's during the entire cruise + absolutely no smell of cigar/cigarette smoke where we were.

Mind you ... there are doors before you can gain access to (1) Churchill's Lounge (2) the private corridor where the row of WSs are located.

Great review! Thank you for sharing!

Did you find it difficult to have a cabin without a balcony?

Hi Dreamer333:

A balcony is nice but it's not mandatory for me and Mrs. Between a WS and a regular balcony or a mini suite, I would go with a WS, much more spacious.

Value is what I shoot for. Well! Maybe not an Inside.

Different folks different stroke I guess.

Hi Rosethorn40:

Like I had indicated, I only used the Sanctuary for a couple of hours during the entire cruise.

Pretty sure your comment is a more accurate as to how packed the Lotus Pool area was.

I was in that area maybe 6 or 7 times total, basically looking for my son thinking he may be at the Sanctuary "hey, time to have a drink with your old man" so to speak.

During those visits, I saw on average 6-7 bodies inside the pool, a number of loungers alongside the pool was not occupied either, maybe that was just an illusion of the actual situation. No idea!
