bluewater63 Posted September 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 2, 2014 I do NOT want a cabin with an open balcony. How do I prevent getting an upgrade to one of those? I understand they are an upgrade from a regular balcony.
dplusd Posted September 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 2, 2014 The most common uncovered balconies are the Dolphin deck mini-suites on the Grand Class ships. We don't like them at all. If you want a mini-suite with a covered balcony on this ship, book one of the few Emerald deck aft minis. On these ships, the Caribe balcony rooms have a larger balcony and is about half covered, half uncovered, but these are popular for their large size and partially covered space. f-mattox Posted September 2, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 2, 2014 You can prevent an upgrade by having your travel agent check on your reservation "no upgrade". This is not 100% foolproof because if you read the Passenger Contract, they can actually put you anywhere they want; but this would be a rarity. tgmg00a Posted September 2, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 2, 2014 To add one note. On the Grand class ships, which includes the Star, all the balcony suites on the Baja deck are covered. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lovevacadays Posted September 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 3, 2014 You need to mark your booking "no upgrade" if you are concerned about being upgraded to a cabin you might not like. If you used a travel agent have them do it. Otherwise, it is the luck of the draw. I hear you have 72 hours to turn down an upgrade, but I have also heard that some people were not given that option and could not get their original cabin back.
