open balconies on Princess

The most common uncovered balconies are the Dolphin deck mini-suites on the Grand Class ships. We don't like them at all. If you want a mini-suite with a covered balcony on this ship, book one of the few Emerald deck aft minis.

On these ships, the Caribe balcony rooms have a larger balcony and is about half covered, half uncovered, but these are popular for their large size and partially covered space.

You can prevent an upgrade by having your travel agent check on your reservation "no upgrade". This is not 100% foolproof because if you read the Passenger Contract, they can actually put you anywhere they want; but this would be a rarity.

You need to mark your booking "no upgrade" if you are concerned about being upgraded to a cabin you might not like. If you used a travel agent have them do it. Otherwise, it is the luck of the draw. I hear you have 72 hours to turn down an upgrade, but I have also heard that some people were not given that option and could not get their original cabin back.
