Travel Irons?

Hi

Does anyone know if travel irons are permitted or not? I will

iron the garments before hand and then the dry cleaned items

will of course be freshly pressed, however they don't always

"travel" well and may need to be pressed or steamed in order

to be wearable. Anybody know the rules on this?

Generally not permitted, and not a good idea. Fire hazard. Instead, take a hand held travel steamer, or use the iron in the ship's laundry room, or send them out for pressing.

It is my understanding that irons are a fire hazard onboard, and are very 'frowned' upon at minimum. From my own travel experience, a steamer is just an easier, more lightweight option--quicker, works great on heavy fabrics, and is safer for more delicate formal wear/light summer fabrics too. Know it sounds silly, but this does seem to work--if you place individual clothing items separately in dry cleaning bags, then packing in suitcase, minimal (if any) wrinkling. I put LOTS of cotton capris, shirts, skirts in very full suitcase last trip using this tip, and didn't have to steam/iron anything.

A steamer is a better option although I have taken a travel iron before I bought my stramer.

BTW, Royal Caribbean ships do not have a laundry room that passengers can use.

I went to walmart a couple weeks ago and found a travel size combination steamer/iron which also has a press. It's made by Black and Decker and I believe it was $22.00. It will be nice to have any time we travel.

The only items we had that did not travel well were our formal attire. We just sent them out to be pressed - DH's tux (jacket only), my dress, one short dress and a satin blouse - all for only $11! It was definitely worth it.
