Hi all,

Arriving in Cannes Port at 8am. Ship leaves port at 6pm. I am looking for advice about visiting Monte-Carlo by train ? Is the train service reliable and what alternatives are there which are reliable ?

Considering the short time we have, what are the must do's in Monte-Carlo/Monaco would you suggest ?

If anyone has any links to reviews maybe you can link them to me.

Any help or advice is much appreciated

Cheers

IMO the must-do's in Monte Carlo are an audio tour of the Palace, followed by attendance at the daily Changing of the Guard ceremony, a visit to the Cathedral where Princess Grace is buried and, if you like aquariums, a visit to the somewhat dated acquarium there. I am not a casino fan so did not enter there.

We are always amazed at how there are truly "different strokes for different folks." The OP wants to spend 2 hours on trains to get to Monte Carlo (where they have no clue as to what to see and do). DW and I, who are very familiar with this part of France often find ourselves going out of our way to avoid Monte Carlo (we have driven through on many driving trips between France and Italy) as it is one our least favorite places in this entire region. Go figure.

And on CC we have helped many who needed instructions on how to get our of Monte Carlo when it is their port :). We agree that visiting the Palace (and surrounding area) is probably the best thing to do in MC. As to the Changing of the Guard, it is find if you are into watching some folks march go through a small ceremony. There is also a Changing of the Guard ceremony in Athens, Greece and at Arlington (we mention this for folks that are into Changing of the Guard things. Arlington actually does it every hour :)

Im not overly interested in weather you like or dislike a location. I can make my own decision. I am only seeking assistance from people with positive responses who can assist me. You and 'DW' clearly are not who I want to hear from thanks !

And who has no idea what they want to do ??? I have fully planned my trip to Monte Carlo but I also look for other peoples positive prospective to see a city for things I might not have considered.

And I enjoy watching changing of the guard it reinforces the history and heritage of the town or city being visited ! You also forgot to mention the changing of the guard in London one of the most iconic in the world !!!

Many thanks to the others who have replied, and assisted me as requested so far... cheers

I thought you just wanted train info...the trains are reliable as trains go. The Monaco side is nice?the palace ,the history, the gardens and the Jacque Cousteau museum is interesting. I like the Monte Carlo side as well..shopping,food,and of course The Casino if one needs to go,but the American Casino tight next for is casual and no fees. There is the petite train that goes around as well. As I mentioned there is more info on this board. Enjoy.

Hi Karen,

Thanks for your replies. My last comment was directed at the person who I quoted when I replied, in-case you think differently. I am going through reviews here on CC and I find it a great resource and also the people that contribute to it, not all are helpful but the majority are

Cheers

hjs007,

We are arriving at the Cannes port and plan to visit Monaco/Monte Carlo as well. Husband and I are F1 fans and have always wanted to see/drive on the Monaco track :)

If you have others travelling with you, may I suggest a private tour of the region? We have booked with Revelation Tours and in addition to Monaco/Monte Carlo we will be visiting Eze and Nice. Cost for a van that carries 8 people is 495 Euros.

Have a wonderful vacation!

We have a party of 4 & will be arriving Cannes port on 10/10/14 Fri on NCL Epic. I would like to visit Nice/Monaco/Monte Carlo as well. Is this Revelation Tours reliable company? Do they pick up at the port? Can they arrange for group of 8 with other passengers for better rate? Sorry for so many questions. Any infor would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Kidney65,

We are travelling on the Epic as well and will be in Cannes the week after you :)

The price is 495 Euros for the tour and the van can hold up to 8 people. The price does not change based on capacity. We are travelling as a group of 6 and are paying 495. If you are looking for others to share the cost, try posting a tour share on your roll call for 4 more people.

I have read good reviews of Revelation Tours and the driver Michel Legrand has been very nice to deal with and is willing to alter the tour itinerary to the sites you wish to visit. He does pick up directly at the port.

His email is: Michel Legrand <revelationtour@aol.com>

We have booked private tours at each port Rome in Limo (Rome, Naples, Livorno), Revelation Tours (Cannes) and Nano Bike Tours (Palma). If you have any questions please ask!
