missdebi Posted September 15, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Whenever we save money on anything prior to a cruise we relate it back to our cruise. Today I turned in $32 in scratch off winnings- my DH said that's one day of the cheers program-we have money jars that count the change and my DH will say- day 2 of the cheers program. Now me I will say casino money!!!
ams1130 Posted September 15, 2014 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Yes, and I do the reverse, too; if I overspend on something, no Sbucks coffee for me that week!
maureencruiser Posted September 15, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Yup, the other girls at work got take out food for lunch. I said, I'd rather have a Margarita on my cruise and ate my sandwich from home. :D
Ehpride Posted September 15, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2014 Oh yeah. Whenever I turn in spare change to my vacation account or get obc, I figure out what it will be able to pay for. My next goal is to have enough in the account to pay for our post cruise hotel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
CTI1WLM Posted September 15, 2014 #5 Share Posted September 15, 2014 and any time we give a tip, $1 goes into the tip box. The amount of the tip does NOT matter (e.g., could be 10¢ tip for a cup of coffee at the drive-in, or it could be a $XX tip at a fancy restaurant), instead whenever we give a tip, $1 goes into our own tip box. Folks, the box is getting heavy.:)
Uncle Deane Posted September 15, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2014 I always relate cruise expenses and OBC back to buckets of beer. For example, we've booked balcony's in the past but find we don't get our moneys worth, so we book Ocean View cabins. Do you know how many buckets of beer that equals? :D Right now I have 2 bucket worth of OBC for an upcoming cruise in November; with any luck, we'll get more! Eeyoregon Posted September 15, 2014 #7 Share Posted September 15, 2014 I don't drink beer but I do equate my savings to drinks of the day :D. Just last night I knocked another $17 off my pre-cruise car rental rate and said, "Sweet, that's 2 drinks of the day". Gina
Rare ncovert Posted September 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted September 15, 2014 In the weeks and months leading up to a cruise I do think about the little things (like Starbucks for a week) and little things I could enjoy on a cruise. I have never taken that money and placed in a jar or the like, but it an interesting idea. And could be a way to get the excitement going for the cruise. kona_wahine Posted September 15, 2014 #9 Share Posted September 15, 2014 I drive for work and get mileage reimbursement each month. That goes in a savings account and is our vacation spending money. And the little extra surprises we get along the way go there also. We also save change and cash it in just before vacation for extra spending money. missdebi Posted September 15, 2014 Author #10 Share Posted September 15, 2014 We have a box that is completely taped shut with only a small slit for money we put all our special occasion money in it.....birthday, Christmas, etc. and anytime we have extra it goes in the box we normally end up with at least $1000.00! That's our spending money for the week!
blondie151o Posted September 16, 2014 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2014 We have a reusable wipes bin that came with a big box of diapers I bought - that is now almost full of change. 30 days and counting!! Will cash in the change right before our vacay! :) Sent from my iPhone using Forums
