ylwdogsc Posted October 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted October 2, 2014 So this upcoming 6 day cruise will be our 4th. All others have been 5 day, including a NYE cruise. We are not considering Cheers for this one as we do NOT want to be limited to the 15 drink max. Now, in the past, our S&S accounts were $1k-1,400 or so by the end of the trip, which is fine with us. We generally get the wine package for dinners and drinks and shots throughout the day could encroach on the limit sooner than we'd like on any given day. NO, we won't be falling down drunk and unable to remember. Some people tolerate and handle it better than others. We aren't kids, early 40s... :p Thoughts? rolaur Posted October 2, 2014 #2 Share Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) Why don't you get the Cheers plan and keep track of your drinks. You can start paying for them before you hit #15 and then won't be cut off. Should still save you a bunch on the first 14! Any bartender can tell you what number you are on as well. Plus you'll get a 25% discount on more expensive drinks! Edited October 2, 2014 by rolaur
hannahouse Posted October 2, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 2, 2014 Can you not purchase drinks once you have hit your 15 drink maximum? You would come out way ahead to just purchase drinks using your 25% discount the Cheers program gives you.

rolaur Posted October 2, 2014 #5 Share Posted October 2, 2014 No drinks at all once you hit 15 on your Cheers program but, as long as you don't order that magical #15, you can buy drinks just as you can at any time for someone else. But 15 is a hard cutoff!

I think there's still a discount benefit for bottles of wine, too, although not sure that applies to the wine packages. If I were you, I'd probably still purchase the wine package, and intersperse paid-for drinks with Cheers drinks as you go. There's got to be a pretty considerable savings in there. ylwdogsc Posted October 2, 2014 Author #7 Share Posted October 2, 2014 So as long as 15 isn't reached....I thought purchasing wasn't permitted 'off Cheers" at all. Thanks for clarifying!
AnnaNimitee Posted October 2, 2014 #8 Share Posted October 2, 2014 So as long as 15 isn't reached....I thought purchasing wasn't permitted 'off Cheers" at all. Thanks for clarifying! It seems to vary a little from ship-to-ship, but from what I've read, most of them will allow you to do that, as long as you haven't reached 15. Pretty sure you can buy rounds for other people "off Cheers", so you could always say it was for a friend, even if at regular price.
AnnaNimitee Posted October 2, 2014 #9 Share Posted October 2, 2014 There's also Bon Voyage, if that's of interest.

That's what I thought. Not that the 15 drink limit is an issue for me, but I've seen it discussed on here. If you hand a bartender your s&s card and you have cheers, you can actually tell them - don't count this one towards cheers? Buying a round of drinks requires bodies around to take the drinks. How do you do that just for yourself?
Herbaltees Posted October 2, 2014 #11 Share Posted October 2, 2014 ^^^ can't you ask the bartender for 4 Jack and cokes?

I've bought a round of drinks several times at one bar and they gave me a tray to put the drinks on and take them.
stormynow Posted October 2, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 2, 2014 OP, I agree the 15 drink max is a PITA. Better off without it.

If you truly feel 15 drinks a day is not enough, you can always buy some bottles off the FUN SHOPS before your cruise for in your stateroom. They are pricey, but you can easily get the same amount of drinks from them the bartenders will make. Make pre=dinner cocktails in your room while you get ready or for afterwards. Once you hit your 15 (if the bartenders are following the rules) you will be cut off. There is a reason there's a cut off.
bshow Posted October 3, 2014 #16 Share Posted October 3, 2014 15 drinks a day, every day, for six days just seems like a massive amount of booze to me. More power to you, I guess...

sirfuller Posted October 3, 2014 #18 Share Posted October 3, 2014 I was surprised how easy it was to hit the limit. Before that cruise, I never thought I would even get close to it but when you mix in beer to the equation on a day at sea, it was pretty easy. They should just put the drink count somewhere on the receipt.

SNJCruisers Posted October 3, 2014 #20 Share Posted October 3, 2014 Would still love to see someone consume 15 Foster's Oil Cans or 15 Long Island Iced Teas in a day.
jcearth Posted October 3, 2014 #21 Share Posted October 3, 2014 Would still love to see someone consume 15 Foster's Oil Cans or 15 Long Island Iced Teas in a day. I drank 15 Long Islands a few weeks ago on the Conquest - not my favorite drink in the world, but I was running through all of the classic cocktails (I was accumulating match plays for the casino) -- by day 6, I couldn't drink any more of them (too much syrup and sugar). My brother and father maxed out Cheers every day (plus had more drinks that the casino manager bought for them). I averaged 10-11 drinks per day, and only maxed it out the day I was drinking the Long Islands.
10Jan54 Posted October 3, 2014 #22 Share Posted October 3, 2014 There has been many questions about the cheers program. Recently I had it confirmed and tends to be true that each ship can make decisions on letting you go beyond 15 drinks or not. One thing that was cleared up for the Breeze is that if I have a wine pkg. or two that when I get a bottle it DOES NOT go against my 15 drinks. Remember soda and virgin frozen drinks are free with the pkg. so BYOB for those over the top days!:D

Everyone is always asking the bartenders anyway so it would make it better for both the passenger and bar staff.
wiskt Posted October 7, 2014 #24 Share Posted October 7, 2014 Would still love to see someone consume 15 Foster's Oil Cans or 15 Long Island Iced Teas in a day. LOL Well hang out at the back bar by the 24-hr Pizza that are open after 12-1 and you will see them stumbling over one at a time. It's pretty hilarious to watch. Especially the looks on their faces when the bartender has to turn them away for over-limits. "What do you mean I'm over my 15 limit?, Ive only had 6 drinks" (maybe since show-time ended) LOL
GAMOM4 Posted October 7, 2014 #25 Share Posted October 7, 2014 On the Sunshine in May we were told that before you reach the #15 drink that you can ask them to charge you for the drink and you can get extra drinks that way. We had no problem doing that....now at the Alchemy Bar they did ask me was it for someone else and I said "sure" and he fixed it I signed for it and then we went back and got # 14 & # 15 later that night. We weren't told this until the last night of the cruise
