Twickenham Posted October 10, 2014 #3 Share Posted October 10, 2014 We will be cruising on Queen Elizabeth in early December, we have visited sorrento and the amalfi coast, what do you recommend? We are not very mobile is there a hop on bus that comes down to the port ? About a 5-minute walk from the dock there's the main terminus for the ĥop-on hop-off buses - there are 3 routes, and you can buy a ticket that lets you ride all of them. Rare QuattroRomeo Posted October 25, 2014 #4 Share Posted October 25, 2014 Have you considered maybe a private tour, that you could post on your roll call to see if others want to join? Even with 4 people it can be affordable. That way you can be picked up right outside the terminal. Tours like wine tastings, lunch at a farmhouse, or even pizza making are available from private tours, which wouldn't involve a lot of walking. blinking202 Posted October 27, 2014 #6 Share Posted October 27, 2014 I really enjoyed Naples and found it very easy to get around. The main tourist areas are rather compact. The city felt more "real" than many of the other typical cruise ports. The churches are also quite impressive. We took a public bus to the anthropology museum and had no issues (although I saw reports of pickpockets on the buses).
rockdoctor Posted October 28, 2014 #7 Share Posted October 28, 2014 Expect a lot of shops to be closed along the Amalfi Coast.
den21 Posted October 28, 2014 Author #8 Share Posted October 28, 2014 We will be staying in Naples this visit, we had a week in Sorrento earlier this year so did the Amalfi coast. It was more a question about what to do in Naples.

FrecciaTricolore Posted October 31, 2014 #10 Share Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) Naples has so much to see. There is a castle just in front the Cruise Terminal (Maschio Angioino). Then if you want walk a short distance you can take over the castle, where you see Galleria Umberto I, S.Carlo theater, the royal Bourbon palace and Piazza del Plebiscito. Via Roma (or via Toledo, it's same street!) is a pedestrian street famous for shopping and if you are in Naples you can't miss PIZZA! Wherever you are in Naples pizza is always delicious! That's an example of how to spend a day in Naples, otherwise you need a driver to reach the museums, the cathedral and the most panoramic view points! That's only for keep to stay in Naples, because with a driver there are so many other alternative excursions! blinking202 Posted October 31, 2014 #12 Share Posted October 31, 2014 (edited) The Piazza de Plebescito is very impressive. The area from Gesu Nuovo to Duomo along Via Tribunali was our favorite. We felt like there was a different church to pop our heads into every block. We also had some great pizza on Via Tribunali (although I can't remember the name of the restaurant). The city is a little run down, in an almost romantic sort of way. Really quite pretty. Edited October 31, 2014 by blinking202
FrecciaTricolore Posted October 31, 2014 #13 Share Posted October 31, 2014 Naples is very nice, but If you decide to go along the historical center it's better if you do with a guide and avoids to dress jewels and precious watches. It is not dangerous but better if you are careful and it worth in all big towns! Tony - Sorrento (Italy)

A driver would be an unnecessary extravagance in Naples, the archeological museum is only a little over a mile from the cruise port. If you don't want to walk there are several different buses that will take you there or a taxi with the fixed fare of just €7. FrecciaTricolore Posted November 14, 2014 #16 Share Posted November 14, 2014 Wherever there are public transportation a private driver is an unnecessary extravagance! In Naples I would not trust in buses, metro or trains timing, especially for the way back to the ship, because that means to plan with large times just in order to be safe. You can reach the Archeological Museum in less then 2 miles if you know the street along the historical area but Naples has many different museums as Capodimonte or Bellearti.
