Cruising Partner Has to Cancel

Four of us were supposed to get on the Fantasy this Friday (in 3 days). We reserved 2 cabins, 2 people in each. One friend has to cancel because of a death in her family. We all have trip insurance.

1) Will Carnival allow another person to take the place of the person who can't go?

2) If the three of us go, will the person who can't go's cabin-mate have to pay a single supplement, or can she stay in the cabin on her own?

Thank you.

Alice

sorry to hear of your situation...

it will depend on the rate you booked.

1) it depends. early saver is typically 'no name changes' - but SOMETIMES they have allowed it for the $50 name change fee. by standard, no go.

2) again it depends. if early saver AND they enforce the change fee, yes. so they lose the money as it's in penalty, and the other person has to pay the single supplement. in that case, it's best they be a no-show.

please post the rate you booked for more concise feedback as terms do vary.

i hope it works out for you regardless :)

OP here.

We didn't have the Early Saver rate. It was $359 for an inside cabin for the 5 day cruise to the Bahamas.

You mentioned that you all have insurance so I believe in order for the person that is cancelling to file a claim they must cancel instead of being a no-show. Also the person remaining alone in the room may need to pay the single supplement and file against the insurance to receive that amount back. Check your insurance policy to see what it states.

Thanks for letting us know. The best person to talk to is "Carnival" when something like that happens. We are great arm chair cruisers, but as each incident is treatly on an individual basis, when there is a crisis, the best place to go is Carnival.

Have a great cruise!

I don't think the OP would have to pay the single fee, the other persons cruise fare is paid for and the insurance company pays the cruiser back for the missed cruise. Carnival has their money already for two in the cabin.

The single fee cruise fare would of been the price of two in a cabbin ...right?

That would make way too much sense. I agree with you but we all know that just because something is logical or makes sense doesn't make it true.

To OP I am glad you were able to find someone to take the place of your friend. Sorry for their lost family member.

Say nothing and get on the ship as if your friend will be meeting you on board.

if you say nothing your friend will NOT be able to collect on the insurance.

if she cancells she calls her agent and lets them take care of all uinsurance paper work- and nothing happens to the sailing partner
