slybear Posted November 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted November 7, 2014 We just returned from Halloween on the Dream. Everything functioned well, lines not bad at buffett, no sewer smell anywhere & the air conditioner worked fine! I had it down to a cool 66 degrees in my cabin! We enjoyed it so much that we rebooked onboard for next years Halloween cruise on the Dream (Oct 25, 2015)

The Serenity area is nice but can be very windy while at sea. The aft pool is crowded but not as bad as the main pool on lido deck. Its not quite as hectic & the Tandori grill is back there. Bookbug53 Posted November 11, 2014 Author #15 Share Posted November 11, 2014 Friday October 31 Took a shuttle from the airport for $40 for 2 plus tip. A bit more than a cab but very convenient. The driver gave a bit of NO history and pointed out a lot of different land marks along the way. We were the 4th stop on his route and got a bit oriented by hitting a few other areas. We stayed at the Prytania Park Hotel on Prytania Street and found ourselves about a 25 minute walk from Bourbon St. The hotel is nice enough and included continental breakfast and free wi-fi. We only availed ourselves of the free coffee. The room was an ‘Old World Queen’. Nice enough room on the second floor with exterior entrance. No elevator. Lots of little interior patio areas for sitting in the evening and the people are very helpful. The 2 mornings we were there we ate at the Warehouse on Magazine Street (simple, good food) and at Mother’s. Quite frankly I would not do Mothers again. More like a rude cafeteria atmosphere and mediocre food. Please keep in mind this is my opinion. Friday was Halloween and in NOLA it was celebrated! We had dinner at ….. Hard Rock on Bourbon. This is not what we had originally intended but places were crowded. The food was..well.. Hard Rock. Bourbon Street was a mad house and we got some crazy videos and caught beads from the parade. If I am able to upload something I will post a link later for the video. We did some shopping for the family back home with the intention of mailing stuff back before we sailed. This worked out fine. Intro pictures.
Bookbug53 Posted November 11, 2014 Author #16 Share Posted November 11, 2014 (edited) Saturday, November 1 We took the time to seek out a post office (Loyola Street) and mail home the gifts to the family. No hauling stuff around this time. We had breakfast at the Warehouse on Magazine St and it was pretty good. From there we walked to the WWII Museum and spent a few hours trying to take it all in. We did the ‘Beyond All Boundaries’ experience and it was phenomenal! The experience is well worth the time! History buffs rejoice! We had a very late lunch/early dinner at Mulate’s on Julia Street and enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Located on the corner across from Riverwalk. This is when we also discovered the location of the cruise terminal. We took the rest of the day to walk through Riverwalk and get familiar with the terminal location and access. We were really wondering if it was walkable. We only have carryons and a tote bag so no big luggage worries. Found the exit from Riverwalk to the terminal with no problems. Enter Riverwalk at the corner of Julie Street and walk straight through to the opposite doors facing the river. Turn right. Walk 3 minutes. We avoided all the motorized traffic and walked right into the terminal. Edited November 11, 2014 by Bookbug53
Bookbug53 Posted November 11, 2014 Author #17 Share Posted November 11, 2014 The Elation was in port and we caught her leaving. We took these pictures standing outside at Riverwalk. Loved watching her do the '180' in the river and sail away. :) Our turn tomorrow!

Bookbug53 Posted November 12, 2014 Author #19 Share Posted November 12, 2014 Did I mention how cold it was in NOLA? Not too bad for us northern folk but the wind definitely was felt. It could have been worse. Back home they were getting hit with 17 inches of snow and no power for 2 days. Felt bad for them. For a minute. Sunday, November 2 – We Set Sail! Getting to the terminal was simple for us. We walked. About 20 minutes. This is also the morning we went to Mother’s for breakfast. So recommended. We did not care for it. You wait outside in line. They hand you a menu so you will know what you want when you stand in the other line inside to order from the register at the counter. At this point there is a decided lack of civility. You order, you pay, you step aside to wait for your drinks and then find yourself a table. They grab your receipt and bring you your food. Sorry but there is no atmosphere, kind of dingy, and the food was mediocre at best. The service was all done with, well, no personality and no smile. When we reached Riverwalk we went to Café du Monde for beignets and coffee. Now that was good!! We headed over to the terminal about 10:30. We were directed to the priority lounge and filled out our questionnaire to let them know we were healthy! This took about 3 minutes. Received our boarding card and sat to wait. We actually got called about 11:15 if I remember right. There were 3 large wedding parties boarding first and they did not seem that organized. We walked on and stopped at the atrium bar for our Cheers purchase. Got to spend that OBC and gift cards on something. This is why we only do carry ons now!
