Infinity Plus and Minus.

We just got back from 22 days on the Infinity. Here are the plusses and minuses. The condition of the ship is good and the attitude of the staff was generally quite positive, especially Rhys, Melo, and Richard in the dining room, Diane in the MDR, and Merrill in customer relations. The SS United States was a positive experience. In general, customer relations staff were more positive than usual. The music while not always appropriate to the venue, was not excessively loud, except for one night in the dining room when club music drowned out conversation.

The minuses follow. Q tips and cotton balls have been replaced by 2 item packages, the availability of which is dependent on the cabin steward and stewards were a mixed bag. Water and ice require a request. Chocolates are gone. Reservations for select dining were almost impossible on the second leg of the cruise, in spite if working fine on the first. The food in the MDR seemed a little more bland; and the soups which were once a high point are now mostly mediocre. The telephone system had all kinds of problems with voice mails, and ringing very early in the morning. Celebrity does not police locals running cons on Labadee. Some laundry was lost, but reimbursement was made. The staff had a tendency to leave doors unsecured which results in constant banging when the seas are rough and wind noise is loud at the front of the ship. The most frustrating aspect of the cruise was the apparent lack of training of many of the staff. Instead of providing accurate information or offering to get the answer, staff sometimes provided no information or, worse, misinformation. Some of the restaurant management seemed more like ambitious business types than people in the food industry.

One last positive. Marius Borcila, the restaurant manager, provided accurate information, plausible explanations, and enthusiasm for food.

I almost forgot. There was no pre-plating in the elite lounge, but it is being considered and debated for the buffet.

Thanks so much for posting your thoughts.

Can certainly understand your feelings on the lack of training by many of the staff. Misinformation is far worse than no information at all.

Happily, there were some positives to your cruise as well.
