What is the best way to call home from the Caribbean. Need to stay in touch with family, don't have iPhone etc. Know l can email. Has anyone use international sim? Thanks

Can you not borrow a smartphone? There's wifi a plenty in most ports and you could speak for free via apps like Viber or Skype.

Have you thought about Skype, most android phones will allow you to add

App which is free, just need to add your contacts before you depart

Most of the Caribbean ports offer free wifi in the cruise terminal, if not

Find a bar and make a purchase and they will give you their internet code.

Skype is free for you and receiver :)

 

On Skype you can either video chat or just use it without screen similar to

A landline call

I think the OP by saying "dont have an iPhone etc" is also meaning they dont have an Android smart phone either.

I have a simple mobile that won't work in the caribbean, not enough bands or something. I costed out buying a new one and because I was only making a few short calls it turned out just as cheap to use the phone in the cabin :)

It isn't too expensive to buy a phone that will work from the Caribbean - you don't need an expensive I phone to do so. Your nearest phone shop will advise. We bought a cheapie that worked with our SIM for about £30 . It's worth enquiring at your local shop.

I have a phone l can use. I know about Skype. I wondered if anyone has used the international sim. I need to call home to mom who does not have internet access . Calls from our mobile were so expensive last year.

What about the good old fashioned pay phone. Surely that is the cheapest way to call home, calling from the ship would be expensive, so if you are on land just use that.
