omarchs Posted November 30, 2014 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2014 First timer in NO going on the Carnival Dream. Is there any advantage to staying in one of the hotels directly at the convention center since the pier is right behind it? I thought I read somewhere that you can't necessarily cut through the convention center to get to the pier. We don't mind having a longer walk to the bourbon st area if we stay in this location if we can just walk to the ship from one of the convention hotels. Just like the flexibility of walking over when we feel like it rather than getting a cab. We would just choose a hotel closer to bourbon st if you still need to grab a cab from the convention area hotels if the don't have easy pass through access to the pier. Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
rvsullivan Posted November 30, 2014 #2 Share Posted November 30, 2014 Walking can be problematic, if you have luggage it is not always easy. Steets and railroad tracks, plus sometimes the cops are tough about walking on the streets that are for vehicles only. Cab fare from convention center area and Canal St are the same, about $9 for two. Weather and crowds make all the difference. We never walk. terryinal Posted December 3, 2014 #3 Share Posted December 3, 2014 I have walked from to convention center. You will have to walk around it. When I stay that way I park at the fulton street parking and they have a free shuttle.
