BND Posted December 5, 2014 #53 Share Posted December 5, 2014 I have been on cruise (not Carnival) where on Elegant night you could get your picture with the Captain. He was clearly over served. We assumed it was his night off and not concerned. The Captain never really has a "night off". He is ultimately responsible for the ship. Now, the second in command may have been on duty at that time, but that doesn't relieve the Master of the vessel of responsibility. On the same cruise mentioned above, our second to last sea night heading back to Baltimore we had an impressive thunderstorm with sideways rain, lightning, thunder and strong winds around 1 am. The Captain at the "Captain's Corner" Q&A the next day said he was called by the officer on duty from the bridge and told about the storm they were entering. That's typical. tonit964 Posted December 6, 2014 #54 Share Posted December 6, 2014 We have been on two New Year's cruises and at midnight, after pouring champagne for the guests, the staff behind the bar at the party on the lido deck were toasting each other with glasses of champagne and drinking it. There were lots of tears among them as I'm sure they were all missing their families. It was really nice to see them enjoying themselves and letting loose a little bit. CruisingObsessed Posted December 6, 2014 #56 Share Posted December 6, 2014 Need a like button. Me too. Lighten up people. There's a huge difference between a drink and being drunk. We are all safe, and they ensure it. Don't worry so much!
