linerode Posted January 2, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 2, 2015 We are going on RCCL in the fall to Grand Cayman and looking for the best snorkeling excursion. Our favorite would be some beach time, snorkeling and then being able to stop in town and shop before returning to the ship. However, the reviews on the excursion options on RCCL don't have good things to say about the beach/snorkeling excursions. Any advice?
mets07 Posted January 2, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 2, 2015 (edited) Hi - the first time we went to Grand Cayman, we did an RCCL excursion - catamaran and snorkeling. It was fun, but it was so long ago that I think it unlikely the exact same one is offered now. We went out in the morning and when done they dropped us right off at the beach and told us we could either take the excursion-provided bus back to port or just stay and enjoy the beach and get back on our own which is what we did .... you can just take a taxi or bus back.... very easy. It is really not necessary to do excursions in GC unless you need / want to for some reason. Easy and inexpensive to take a cab (and the bus even cheaper). There is good snorkeling at Cemetery Beach ..... no facilities there .... on our most recent cruise we took a cab there and then when done snorkeling we walked back to Calico Jack's (beach bar) .... that is about a mile or a bit more I think.... we walked on the beach... but not for everyone unless you like walking :) .... we then had some lunch and enjoyed the beach there before taking taxi back to cruise port. Enjoy! Edited January 2, 2015 by mets07 clarification
buffy24 Posted January 14, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 14, 2015 We plan to snorkel at Smith's Cove. We have a timeshare on the island and usually hit Smith's Cove at least twice when we are there. They have bathrooms, picnic tables, shade and outdoor showers. It's probably about a mile south of town. It's an easy walk or short cab ride. When you are finished you can walk back to town and go shopping. You can't miss Smith's Cove. It is right across the street from a HUGE house/mansion. caribsun Posted January 14, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 14, 2015 You can snorkel for free at Eden Rock which is a five minute walk from the tenders and then a 5.00 p/p cab to 7 Mile Beach.
