Car Rental Question?

Hi

 

My husband and I will be in St Kitts for a day on our Quantum of the Seas cruise.

 

We wanted to rent a car, however, all the cars to rent in Basatierre (sp?) are sold out for the day

 

I was able to reserve a car with Thrifty but it's at the airport. How far is it to get to the airport to pick up the car from the cruise pier? Also, would it be easy to get a cab back to the pier after dropping the car at the airport at the end of the day? Any ideas of approximate cost of cab to/from airport/pier?

 

Is it easy to get around the island with a rental car? We want to hit the main sites like Brimstone Fortress. I'm not sure what else but maybe Carabelle Batik. Any other suggestions?

I can't comment on the trip to the airport and back to get a car but I can say that we were very thankful not to be doing the driving on the trip up to Brimstone Fortress. We did our tour with Royston but there are many others who offer similar tours.

 

Maybe you should try to find others who have rented and see what they think of the roads and the driving.

For only one day, I would skip the rental car and go with a tour. The rental cost is going to be at least $50 with fees & taxes, required temp drivers license at $24, taxi fare to the airport & return later about $25. If you feel comfortable driving on the left and really want to have the flexibility of your own vehicle go for it.

I have rented a car in St. Kitts from AVIS for the day and didn't have any problems but this time they are all sold out for March 31. :(

Paul58, are there any other car rental places near the cruise dock that I can walk too? Arriving on the Maasdam March 31.

Thrifty at one time was within walking distance as well as was Hertz. There is a local rental agency very close to the Avis location on the Bay Road. We have been using Bullseye for several years. They are in the Bird Rock area east of town on the way to Frigate Bay. There must be something going on to have the rental agencies tell you they are sold out. Several years ago we were going over to Nevis and Thrifty did not have any cars available because of weather related shipping problems. Good Luck! Try these:one.
