Some Quantum questions, Thanks!

Recommended Posts

I am traveling with a group of 6 on Quantum in February and had a few questions for those who have already cruised.

1. How important it is to book our restaurants in advance? The 6 of us cruised NCl Breakaway last year which had anytime dining and we loved it. Each afternoon we would pick a time and restaurant and make our reservation for that evening on a touch screen on the ship and it worked out great. I'm hoping we could do the same on the Quantum, but some of these posts are making me think we'll be stuck at the WJ all week if we don't make reservations before boarding.

2. Can North Star be reserved prior to sailing? Right now it is not on the website to book.

3. Do you think the Disney excursion is worth it since the ship doesn't dock til 1pm?

1. We saw no issues dining anytime we wanted but we were only 2 not 6.

2. North Star could not be booked in advance for our cruise.

3. We previously sailed Breakaway and did not do Disney tour because of the time we arrived. We didn't think it was worth it. Hopefully someone who has done it can comment.

We are a party of 6. It seems like reservations are hard to come by if not prebooked, unless you want to eat very early (ie 5:30). We prebooked, and in 2 of the 3 nonpay restaurants (grande and amer icon ) they were not seating walkups, so reservations were essential. I don't know how many people with reservations made them once onboard, but still, i wouldnt want to take a chance. Fwiw, chic was our favorite nonpay restaurant, and they did seem to be taking walkups, and some of the pay restaurants also seemed to be available onboard.

As of now north star cannot be prebooked. On some sailings they give out tickets. On this one ( im on now ), you just have to stand in line. We were able to prebook ifly, though.

You probably would not get to disney until around 3. Then you'd have to leave disney a couple hours before sailaway. If you'd be there less than 8 hrs or so, i wouldn't bother. Too much stress and $$$ for too little return (and this is from someone who loves disney ).

It's late so you may not have much to chose from but I would definitely recommend reserving dining and shows.

If you can get early seating such around 545-630 you may avoid the long waits reported by many. DD was one of the few things that we had no problem (other than slow service) with on this cruise.

Our group of 10 walked in every night without any wait and the food was a step above our previous RCI fare. That was 11 nights out of 11. And there were many empty tables around us every night.

As to the Disney excursion it depends when in February you are visiting. If it is before or after the Presidents Week vacation, the crowds will be much lighter.

If you go to http://www.undercovertourist.com and look at the crowd calendar for your date of arrival at Disney, you will see if it is a recommended park.

These calendars are very accurate. You will have about five hours there, enough time to hit a few good rides, experience the magic, get a bite to eat and see Mickey and Goofy. If it's an off peak time, go for it and have a great time.

I have not sailed her yet so can not speak about the dinning. We had a similar wonderful experience on Getaway and loved her. After your cruise I would really enjoy hearing how you feel like Quantum rates vs Breakaway.

IMO the cost for Disney for just a few hours would not be worth. Not sure of your week in Feb but there are some very busy days. I would also not risk doing it outside of a Rccl excursion since its a bit of a drive from the port. I am someone who does not usually book excursions thru the cruise but that would be one I would not do without booking it thru them because of the drive.

From what I understand you can not book Northstar until the day of because the weather plays so much of a issue on it going up.
