BK512 Posted February 26, 2015 #29 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Last week on Miracle, we took our unopened bottle to the MDR, intending to share with our tablemates. The tablemates never showed up. The Asst. Waiter grabbed the bottle, opened it, poured it, brought us an ice bucket....no corkage fee. Of course, your experience may vary. This was just my experience. Purvis1231 Posted February 26, 2015 #30 Share Posted February 26, 2015 The corkage fee is not for just opening the wine but it is for service and storage when you bring wine into the dining room otherwise you need to keep your wine in your room. jmkel Posted February 26, 2015 #33 Share Posted February 26, 2015 We usually buy a wine package (at Cherry on Top) on our first day. They either deliver the wine to your dining room table on the nights you specify, they store unused wine and serve it to you the next night. You do not get charged a corking fee for their wine. Then, on nights you bring your own bottle of wine, they have always uncorked it for us.... and never have charged us a corking fee, even on our own wine. However, we don't ask them to store (our wine) on those nights. We just fill up our glasses at the end of the meal and walk out with a full glass of wine onto our next venture. Piano bar, comedy or whatever! Been on Liberty, Glory and Breeze and have never been charged corkage fees. it could be because they think all the wine is from their wine packages... (but the two we bring on board are our own home made wine - with labels and shrink caps to look purchased). ;)
texast518 Posted February 26, 2015 #34 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Our wines are never $5. More like $50/bottle. Mine also, Maddog 20/20, Ripple, Thunderbird, and sometimes Revana Family Vinyard Red.
tbjl24 Posted February 26, 2015 #35 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Which is exactly what you're supposed to do with the wine Carnival allows you to bring on board at embarkation. If people keep abusing this privilege by pouring a glass in their room and then carrying it into the MDR or other venues around the ship, I have no doubt that Carnival will eventually do away with this policy. How would they possibly even know whether you poured in your room or bought from another bar before heading to dinner?
Rare Clearwater Posted February 26, 2015 #36 Share Posted February 26, 2015 How would they possibly even know whether you poured in your room or bought from another bar before heading to dinner? Exactly! Last two cruises, dinner was half way over before I was even able to order a glass of wine. It was really annoying for the table. On my next cruise, I plan on either bringing a glass down to dinner from my cabin or ordering one at the bar before I walk in. I don't want to receive my glass of wine when dessert is coming. Many people bring in drinks from the other bars.

Are the bottles only available to you in the dining room or can you have access to them for your cabin? If you do not finish your bottle of wine at dinner you can either have the waiter store it for you or take the bottle with you. We rarely have any left after dinner :D, but if we do then we take with. I also think if you have purchased a wine package you can order one of the bottles at a bar, it's not just restricted to the dinner table. Not sure if you can order one with room service. swodog94 Posted February 26, 2015 #39 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Last cruise we brought a very nice bottle of wine with us for a special dinner. Had it for our anniversary dinner at David's Steakhouse...no corkage fee was charged. Seems to be hit or miss, depending on your wait staff. bonnie&clydecruzers Posted February 26, 2015 #40 Share Posted February 26, 2015 Definitely hit or miss. On the Imagination last year, our head waiter wanted to charge me a corkage fee when I asked for a glass of ice for my unopened soda can. Our wine we bring on, we just drink in the room. And just how much did he want to charge you for the glass of ice? Did you bring this up with the Matre'd to find out if this was standard practice? Rochesterboatingdotcom Posted February 27, 2015 #42 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Before 2008, you could bring as much wine as you wanted on board. This was thanks to then CEO Bob Dickinson. He was a big wine connoisseur, and had a wine cellar at his house that sported over 1,000 bottles at any given time. When Gerry Cahill took the reigns, this policy was changed shortly after. gtaylor Posted February 27, 2015 #43 Share Posted February 27, 2015 Quick question on the wine package... Are the bottles only available to you in the dining room or can you have access to them for your cabin? I don't remember if it was the Splendor or the Miracle, but we had our wine 'package' delivered to our room, with extra glasses and a complimentary corkscrew. Took at least one unopened bottle to the dining room with no additional charge. gary
