Suite Events

Recommended Posts

Sailing on Rhapsody of the Seas soon in a Grand Suite for the first time. Could any recent cruisers advise of any "special events for Suite guests". On the RCI site there is considerable comment on what is and is not held and varies greatly from ship to ship. Interested to know what we may experience on board in the Australian season.

We are just off the rhapsody on Thursday. We were in a grand suit. We received a lovely suite lunch on the second sea day. We also had a bridge tour on the last sea day. You have access to a private lounge which serves drinks & finger food every night from 5.30-8.30. Hope you enjoy it.

On a 16 night cruise soon on Radiance in a GS so also would be interested in what little "extras" they don't always tell you about that may surprise us.

When on Radiance in October '14, we also had a GS for the first time. We had been in JSs before but it seemed to us to be a big step up from them. The Concierge emailed us two weeks before cruising to welcome us. Concierge Lounge is a nice refuge for a proper coffee also a light breakfast and finger food during early evening. The free drinks from 5 - 8.30pm were always plentiful and never weak.

We had priority boarding, a water, cola, fresh fruit and ice awaiting in our room.

A couple of times a plate of small handmade sweets or hors d'oeuvres were delivered late afternoon to our room and we could dine in room with a full dining room menu. Also free movies (2, I think per day).

Tours to the Bridge, Galley and theatre were offered. Priority tendering off the ship was great as was the disembarking.

There was a special breakfast with the officers in Giovanni's, certainly not your usual breakfast and with a very social officer at each table.

Karaoke night with the officers was a bit of fun. We also were lucky to receive an invitation to dine in a group with the Captain on formal night.

Our Concierge was very helpful and ready to assist with bookings etc if needed, in fact she is a very special, delightful lady.

We had plastic wicker style furniture on the balcony, table, 2 chairs and lounger.

The best aspect of the room was the huge glass sliding doors. Furniture, carpet etc was ok and room spacious as well as double basin bathroom with bath. Radiance supposedly is due for refurbish in 2016.

Actually with some enjoyable shore excursions, the GS and superb wait service that we had in MDR, this was one of the most enjoyable cruises so far for us.

It was a special treat for us which we enjoyed and next cruise on VOS we are trying the new Deck 12 family panorama rooms with floor to ceiling glass at the front of the ship.

Hi Tangogulf - you will enjoy the suite life on the Radiance.

If you are doing a 16 nighter soon, I imagine it is the Sydney to Perth. You will be lucky as that is JD's last cruise as Concierge on the Radiance - he is leaving when the ship gets to Perth and heads off to take up his new role as Concierge on the Anthem of the Seas.

Priority tendering is a bonus. JD will tell you what time he will be in the Concierge Lounge for tendering purposes. When you are ready, just go to the CL and he will call the operator and then take you down to the tender boats. He tries to do it in groups.

The suite breakfast is always good as is an invite to Captain's Table (not necessarily a given that you will get an invite though).

You also get reserved seating in the theatre for the shows but you must be there at least 10 minutes before the show starts as they will open it up to everyone at that point.

There is no reserved seating around the pool on the Radiance.

The Concierge Lounge is a great place to meet new friends because you see the same people every evening. The drinks between 5.00pm and 8.15pm are on the house in the Concierge Lounge. Amazing how much your end bill reduces. You will love Beresford:)

We will be on the Radiance in April to Honolulu so it will be interesting to see how we go without JD in the Concierge Lounge but at least we will have Beresford - or we better had:eek: I better check that.

Enjoy the cruise.

Cheers

Di

Thanks Di. Have heard lots of good things about JD seems to be a bit of a legend on these boards. This time we chose a GS as we are "empty nesters" now and don't have to worry about teen/young adult entertainment and wanted a step up from our usual JS or balcony experience. Appreciate your helpful info. Sounds like JD will be missed on one of Australia's favorite cruise ships. Perhaps he will return someday[emoji1]

  • 1 month later...

Had a wonderful time on our 16 day cruise. Beresford is no longer in the lounge though Edna and Bernadette do a great job. Had a breakfast in Giovanni's with officers and ended up sitting opposite Captain Goran. Also had a bridge tour as well as JD's usual concierge club karaoke which was heaps of fun. Lots of little plates of treats randomly turned up in the suite. Only thing not well managed was the priority tendering.

Anyway we had a great time so much so we have booked a GS on Explorer for a Feb16 cruise.

JD is leaving the ship 19th March. He is being replaced by the current Diamond Lounge Concierge. Staff do not currently know who the new DL Concierge will be. Anthem will certainly be a lively place with JD onboard. Love his multiple voicemails each day some of which last many minutes[emoji1][emoji1]

Hi Tangogulf.

Happy that you had an enjoyable cruise.

We are booked on EX 14th Feb 2016. Hoping to see Captain Rick again, as we have cruised with him many times on Rhapsody.

We liked Captain Goran. He invited us to his stateroom for Christmas drinks 2014. We have a picture of him on my DMIL's scooter with her.

Was the D Concierge Hannah?

See you on Ex.:)
