seaplus Posted August 27, 2005 #1 Share Posted August 27, 2005 Anybody can make their own Celebrity Canapes in the comfort of their own homes, simply, easily, affordably. Your friends will be speechless when they see what you've invented, and your parties will be discussed for their unique flair long after the last guest has left. Here's what you do: Get some bread and cut it into pieces sized about the same as, say, a packet of sugar. Then add to it one ingredient from Column A, one ingredient from Column B, and a frilly toothpick. It's that simple! Column A: Hard Boiled Egg, Sardine, Salami, Mango, Pork, Olive Rings, Smoked Salmon, Brie Cheese, Cheddar Cheese, Pickle Column B: Strawberry Jam, Grape Jam, Halved Grapes, Tuna Fish, White Fish, Anchovies, Watercress, Pimiento Cheese Spread, mustard Maybe, for you creative types, you could create a spinner like you'd use in a board game to make your selections automatically. Just see some of the results you can get: Salmon and Grape Jam Sandwich Hard Boiled Egg and Mustard Sandwich Brie and Anchovy Sandwich Salami and Grape Jam Sandwich See how easy it is? You're ready to entertain...the Celebrity way!

cruiseyguy Posted August 27, 2005 #3 Share Posted August 27, 2005 As a final touch, they must be left out, covered in plastic wrap, for a minimum of two hours before serving (or until the bread becomes pleasantly stale).

Kitycaty Posted August 27, 2005 #7 Share Posted August 27, 2005 Geez! Guess we should be grateful for the one caviar canape we received each night with our other 3 other offerings (usually something with bleu cheese, proscuitto ham and some other awful tasting thingy I never could quite figure out, wrapped in saran), on the QM2 when we went Queen's Grill in May. We received at least one tiny dollap of caviar on a 1x1 piece of bread (not stale) with a small dollap of creme fraiche (I think), could have been cream cheese, each evening. These sound awful, and I don't recall them being this bad when we were on our British Isles/Fjords cruise on the Connie, in CC in 2003. Guess the fuel crunch is really affecting them, too bad... :o
nu2sea Posted August 27, 2005 #8 Share Posted August 27, 2005 No, they are really not that bad, Kitycaty. On the other hand they are not to everyone's taste, to put it mildly! It's just another one of those amenities that sound better than they really are. Ours varied from pretty good to completely inedible! However, if you ask (nicely, of course ;) ) your butler, he/she will be able to get alternatives such as a cheese plate or a melon plate. I have heard of caviar also being available, as are shrimp cocktails. The butler is one of those unusual amenities that is a lot better than it sounds. medcoder Posted August 27, 2005 #9 Share Posted August 27, 2005 Gosh you are just a font of info...thanks for the info on requesting other canapes while onboard. We were in a beautiful suite on the NCL Sky for our last AK cruise and each night magically canapes appeared. Or maybe one night chocolate dipped stawberries or cheese try and on and on. It was great. Something different each evening. One night foi gras arrived and we are not big foi gras fans. Sorry if that is not spelled correctly but it was the only thing we didn't care for. So, looking forward to whatever they might bring us. Just wanting to cruise...
cruiseyguy Posted August 27, 2005 #10 Share Posted August 27, 2005 A much better (and fresher) selection of canapes, tea sandwiches and small deserts are available around 4:00 PM at the lido buffet. My butler actually clued me in on these.
Kitycaty Posted August 27, 2005 #11 Share Posted August 27, 2005 Thanx for the tip, Cruiseyguy... Good one! Wait a minute, where's the "Lido Buffet"? I can't locate it on the Connie's deck plan??
Offtune Angel Posted August 28, 2005 #12 Share Posted August 28, 2005 Thanx for the tip, Cruiseyguy... Good one! Wait a minute, where's the "Lido Buffet"? I can't locate it on the Connie's deck plan?? Look up. Waaaayyy up. Deck Ten. Look for the Ocean Grill on the Resort Deck. It's worth the trip, but you are discouraged from taking the sandwiches, fruit, cakes, pastries, tea, coffee, juice, etc. back to your cabin. cruiseyguy Posted August 28, 2005 #13 Share Posted August 28, 2005 Officially, you are "discouraged" from taking goodies back to your cabin but in reality you're not. A waiter actually carried mine back to my cabin each afternoon (I gave him a tip).
