It's the light on my miners hat - I'm trying to sneak on board! I NEED A CRUISE BAD! Is there a twelve step program? Can I get the doc to prescribe a cruise so I can meet with the friends of Bill W?

Okay I just got home from a party. May24 is a BIG party weekend in Canada so I might not be quite my usual self but What is the whole light in the toilet bowl story? I'm booked on an October Celebritty cruise and I have picked up strange sories (hints) about toilet bowls that glow in the dark. PLease for the love of whoever tell me what I am in for why do the toilet bowls have lights? Or is it just passengers who have over indulged who have these strange rest room encounters? Hey I am feeling really proud. For some one who has just returned from a mojor party I am still spelling pretty well

From the posts several months ago the following things were noted:

There is a glow in the toilet bowls on some of the ships late at night.

The people noting the glow were sober.

The people noting the glow were not dreaming.

The glow is pale green and does not appear to be caused by algae, lights, or mysterious alients.

Anyone want to add anything else to the story? (I will find the old thread and give a link to it AS SOON AS THE SEARCH FEATURE IS WORKING AGAIN..... (Sorry Anne and Walt for screaming...)

Hey, thanks nealberk .
Your post does sound a little strange but at least I know I haven't imagined the whole toilet bowl thread.
I too tried using the 'find' feature and got nowhere.

In the end, I think someone in the know told us how it was an ultrviolet light that was part of the ships sanitation/water purification system....

Sometimes there is a need to read between your legs at night?

The bulb could be a tanning bulb to ensure your back side doesn't come back as white as Casper the Friendly Ghost.

For those of you sad enough to worry about this sort of thing (I am ), here is a copy of the thread. I still find it disappointing that this is only a feature of the M-Class ships. Hopefully they will include the feature in the other ships too, as and when they are drydocked

I thought that answer was revealed to be a joke.

Did someone get the search to finally work or was it painstaking tracking back of the thread?

I assure you that it exists on the Summit in the Pacific and the Constellation in the Baltic. Same light, different ships. See it every night around 2:00!

Of course you only see it at 2:00am, that's because they send the little guys into the pipes with flashlights, do you think they would do that during the day time, with all that poo floating around? Duh on you!

Actually I think a light in the toilet would be quite helpful. It's very dark drying to find your way into the bathroom around 2:00 in the morning.... a little glow would help! I can't tell you how many stubbed toes I've had on the raised threshold while trying to tiptoe quietly so as not to wake the sleeping hubby!

Perhaps one explanation would be if they used seawater for toilet flushing. I lived on my sailboat for 14 years and the toilet used seawater. Sometimes it would glow with the Phosphoresence in the plankton. The same way the surf would glow green and even footprints in the sand on dark nights.

I had read the posts about the glowing toilet bowls and was surprised when, one night, I entered the bathroom without any light turned on and my toilet bowl was glowing - just like the posts said.

However, when I lowered the seat lid I noticed that there was also a glow along the wall seam - thus I knew that the glow had nothing to do with the water but rather was from a source behind the toilet.

The next day, I explained the glow story with my cabin steward. For each toilet there is a maintenance access door in the hallway. He opened that door and we saw that the back of toilet bowl, which is some sort of plastic, is fully exposed in that area. Furthermore, there was a hallway overhead light immediately above the maintenance access door. When the door is closed the gap around the door edge is about a quarter inch all the way around. Thus, when the maintenance access door is shut some light gets in through the gaps and penetrates the translucent plastic toilet bowl - just enough to make it appear to glow when the bathroom light is out.

Sorry folks but there are no spooks, ultrviolet light, fungus or any magic.

I have definitive prove that celem is working for the government and is trying to give us dis-information on this topic. It is part of a government conspiracy along with disavowing UFOs, the lone gunman Kennedy assassination, and the like.
It's well reasoned, rational, verifiable and darned near factual!

Must be wrong!
I've seen the green glow on both the Infinity and Summit. It is usually about 2am. I'll check it out again in September.:)

Well shoot. We booked a cruise on the Summit just to find out. I guess we can cancel it now.... NOT!

I am so disappointed! From now on if anyone has an explanation for things that kind of 'bursts the bubble' about weird things, please put a disclaimer on the title so I don't find out things I don't want to, ok? :)
