Private Hiking Tour guides

I may be here in January 2016. My travel companions like to hike. Does anyone have experience with any local/private tour guides that do some good hikes?

Virgin Islands Ecotours offers guided hiking excursions to Hassel Island. Great reviews on TripAdvisor and gorgeous views. They also offer a hiking excursion on St John.

 

You can hike unguided at Magens Bay on their nature trail. Straight up the mountain you go! Again, gorgeous views.

Good info. Returning to St Thomas for another visit and looking for new options. I'll keep this info as an option. We spent three weeks there one Jan and have stopped by on several cruises. I would be leery about pre-booking a hiking trip as many days in Jan it is just too hot to us to hike. Can't tell you how many days we sat sweating while eating breakfast wishing we could find a restaurant with a/c.

Many of the hiking trails have plenty of tree cover and are at higher elevations for a portion so not as hot as you might think. But, since I live here, I'm used to the heat so I'm not the best comparison for people coming from cold country!

 

It's also recommended to hike early morning to avoid noon and after sun. Huge difference. But for me, even afternoon hiking doesn't make me sweat.

 

The best hikes are those that end at a beach. You appreciate the water even that much more after climbing over rocks in the heat!

A hike in the morning as soon as we get off the ship would be ideal. Even better if it ends at a beach.
