Making a Payment online question

Trying to make payment on line but each time I type in my card number I get a message in red that asks me to type in a valid number. I have paid with different cards so far and no problem including this one. Has anyone gotten this message before?/ or is it possible to pay online with an electronic check? Any help would be appreciated.

I have gotten that before and it can one of two things. You have not selected the correct card type... Mastercard, Visa or the system is down.

Thanks again for your answer. When going back on I realized I had not checked a box for type of card. Feel a bit silly:p, but checked visa and all went well. Thank you!
