Thinking about booking the Valentine's Day CTN last minute. Is it worth a balcony or is it too chilly?
IMPO it is worth it. We do not like inside cabins but a lot of people do. Although it is not summer my dh and I were on the 1/16 cruise and we spent a lot of time out on the balcony. We just put our jackets on and hung out there. It was very nice :D So nice we booked the 1/30. 2/13 just seems a bit too high, maybe if it goes down we will do that also :D

Oh! We were able to leave our luggage in the room and explore. Our rooms just weren't ready until about 1:30pm.

Unfortunately, didn't book the 1/30, since I have a 9-day sailing on the Gem in March, but we are already planning for a friend's birthday on the CTN in December. Would be GREAT if they did them more often...and during the warmer months.

I am going on the cruise to nowhere this December 2015....I am doing this, as an extension to me cruise on the Norweigian Gem 10 night eastern caribbean cruise on December 13, 2015.... I am looking forward to this, as i have never been on the Breakaway before...Being as it is only a 2 night getaway, i was looking at the dailies someone posted, and i would like to make a schedule of things that i would like to do, for the two nights...I am travelling solo, so it would be nice to attend the solo gathering that they have...also i would like to go to a couple of speciality restaurants, and see rock of ages, and mabe the cirque soiel...as for the other restaurants, i will wait until i get on the Gem, as i purchased the UDP.... i see that they sail down to as far as ocean city maryland, so hopefully and that is a big IF, i would like to go to the pool area....

I got a BD Category Balcony Cabin...just hope that they put in the dailies, that there is no smoking on balconies...cannot stand smoke...and all the other cruise lines ban smoking inside and on balconies... I was on MSC Divina last october, and if you were caught smoking inside cabin, or on the balcony you got a $250 fine, and off the ship in the next port of call, and you find your own way home.... there is no smoking on the Divina's Casino either....NON SMOKING ONLY...

Well i think i talked your ear off, but i did see that you might book the December CTN, so if you do, look me up...I am in cabin 10742...:)

Thanks for all great info. I have never done a ctn. Just wondering what time can you get to the port., and what time do they start to escort you on the ship. thanks liz

Get down to the cruise terminal about 10 am in the morning....go through the security check point...and then get on line to check in... they normally starting boarding guests starting about 11:30 am. they start with any weddings, priority check in people etc.

Wife and I will be boarding as well on Sat. We sailed the same CTN last year and enjoyed it very much. It is difficult for us to get away for more than a few days at a time.

Our Muster Starion was in the Atrium, and I can tell you that there were many who refused to shut up their personal conversations for even a minute. It was extremely annoying. Folks were three deep at the bar, but service was quick once the drill ended.

We dined at Cagney's the first night and Moderno the second. We'll do the same this trip.

The best pea soup at sea is to be found at the buffet in the late afternoon.

Disembarkation was late for us, we had a 3pm flight from Newark last time. On Super Bowl Sunday, we leave from JFK at 11:40 am.....so we'll be up early and rolling bags off.

Jut got back from CTN 1/30- outdoor decks were closed all day Saturday due to weather, winds and ice. We had a balcony room on deck 10, was covered in ice. I'm a January baby, so I loved it! We had a great time, great first experience, everyone on board (staff and guests) so friendly and welcoming. Easy boarding process and disembarkement was a breeze (besides the fact everyone trying to leave the ship at the same time) yellow cabs were easy to pick up across the street, line moves fairly quick too! (avoid the gypsy cabs, plenty of yellow cabs to go around). Short trip but so worth it!

HI,

I am on the Feb 13th ctn. I am looking for suggestions for sail away. We have never done a CTN and never saw the skyline at night .Since it will be cold prefer to be inside somewhere by big windows. lol

Thanks liz

If you have a balcony cabin on the left side of the ship you can sit by your window. Then maybe go up to the buffet to see the statue of liberty.

Just back from the 1/30 CTN. Embarkation was simple and the cabins were already open when I boarded at 1pm. I was traveling in a group of 9 and we only waited 5 minutes for a table at Taste on Friday night. Rock of Ages was great! And we spent the rest of the evening bouncing between Howl at the Moon and Bliss.

Saturday morning the ship was very unsteady! The movement woke me up at 6am. The fitness center was packed by 8am - so get there early if you want to get a machine. They had to close the outside decks due to high winds. We were only 25 miles off the coast of Long Island and heading east. Later in the afternoon they announced they changed course a little bit to steady the ship more. This is my 2nd time on the Breakaway and I couldn't believe how much that ship was swaying! The day 2 daily said it was 62 degrees - not sure why they put that when it was like 20 degrees!! Would have been nice if they headed a little south but perhaps the whole eastern seaboard was cold with high winds so they figured to keep the ship local.

We wanted to have lunch at Taste or Savor on Saturday but were turned away as they had no availability. So go early if you don't want to eat at the buffet. The ship definitely felt crowded on 6, 7 and 8 on Saturday afternoon as everyone congregated in those areas since there wasn't any outdoor options available. There was also a long line for O'Sheehans for a table even at 3pm!

Saturday night we had a nice dinner in Manhattan and proceeded to the GLOW party. I was disappointed they didn't do the full show like they do on the week longs outside at Spice H20. I guess they can't accommodate that in bliss but they had face paint for those who wanted it.

We had breakfast at 7:30am, left our cabins at 8:30 and disembarked easily. There were plenty of cabs outside but we got an uber instead to pick us up.
