Shayhooper Posted January 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 23, 2015 On other cruise lines you are able to purchase bottles of alcohol before your cruise that get delivered to your cabin for consumption during the cruise. Does NCL have the same service?

del47618 Posted January 23, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 23, 2015 I have always ordered ahead... I was under the impression you HAD to, as they didn't have enough on board to sell this way. Was that a misassumptio, and can you always order onboard?
don't-use-real-name Posted January 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted January 23, 2015 You could do both before and after. It used to be less expensive gratuity and tax free ordering in advance - sadly no longer. The pre-cruise price had a $3 service handling charge per bottle then some greedy nit wit bean counter in the front office changed all that so now it is the 15% gratuity on top of the bottle price. Buy the bottle on board the ship in Miami no local taxes. Buy the bottle in New Orleans there will be a $9 port tax. Buy the bottle in Texas and there are some real screwy laws and taxes involved. BEWARE of the killing prices i.e. Jack Daniels $100 bottle + 15% gratuity and $9 port tax New Orleans and the bill comes to $124. The fair market in a liquor store is around $20+/- but the way NCL regulates alcohol on board if you want the convenience of having a bottle available for personal consumption in your own stateroom - well that is the way it is going to be unless you want to make frequent trips to a bar. Situations such as this cry out for the Pirate in you to make a rum runner run !

When did they make this change??? I ordered two bottles by phone just last month and I was only charged the $3 per bottle service charge!
rvsullivan Posted January 23, 2015 #6 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Last month it was only the $3 service charge. Only way to decide if its worth it is to do the math. 1 liter bottle will make 33 one ounce drinks or 22 1.5 oz drinks. Figure about $6 per drink and I get either $132 or $198. Plus if you have the bottle and don't drink it all (I can't imagine), you can take the remainder home with you.
mpk218 Posted January 23, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 23, 2015 Or eight four ounce drinks :D I do like the relatively new idea of being able to order on board now... Before I always had to guess how much we'd go through in advance . Now we just add one later if needed... prices are a bit of a bite..
