We are sailing on the Regal Princess and will be in Rotterdam on 4/28/2015. Can anyone give us information on a good tour group for Rotterdam. Most of the excursion offered through Princess go to Amsterdam. We may want to stay in the local area instead. We dock at 12pm and the ship leaves at 11:59pm, so we have at least 8 hours in port.

I donot know any grouptours in Rotterdam. But the city isnot that big and easy to do yourself. However be aware Rotterdam doesnot have an old centre since it was bombed during WW2. You will see many highrise (office and condo) buildings and of course shops.

Boymans is an interesting museum: http://www.boijmans.nl/nl/

or go to the top of Euromast: http://www.euromast.nl/

You can pay a visit/make a tour or just get a drink on the old ss Rotterdam, which is docked at walking distance from the cruise terminal. http://ssrotterdam.com/

Or make a city harbour boat tour, which leaves from opposite the river, across the big white bridge. http://spido.nl/en

But why not take a train to Delft, a small nice old city, canals, church whre the dutch royals are buried, all very walkable. http://www.delft.nl/delften/Tourists

Ine - Can you provide a bit more information about the train to Delft. We will be on Royal Princess and arrive in Rotterdam on May 7. We are in port from 10 am - 8 pm and also looking for something other than the ship tours.

How far from the cruise port to train. What is the cost per person and where else could we reasonably go with the time we have.

Thanks!

From the port take either the metro next to the white Erasmusbridge on your side for a short ride to Rotterdam Centraal, or take a cab. Tickets on metro a little complicated nowadays, check: http://www.ret.nl/en/nc/homepage.html

For transportation by frequent trains from Rotterdam Centraal to Delft: http://www.ns.nl/en/travellers/home

Since you will use it only for 1 day I think best is to a day return ticket with a small surcharge. The ov chipcard is hardly worth it. As you will see trains are very frequent, that will be no problem.

Timewise it will be no problem as you can see.
