Martini Mom Posted January 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Booking today.....We will be cruising the (exotic) Western Caribbean out of Galveston on the Freedom (Mahogany Bay, to Belize, to Coz, then back to Galveston). We are booking a balcony room, but I need help deciding which side of the ship you recommend. Thanks :)
nwo4life Posted January 28, 2015 #2 Share Posted January 28, 2015 Port side was the choice on Dream last month on that itinerary. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Miller_KC Posted January 28, 2015 #3 Share Posted January 28, 2015 (edited) For facing land in Cozumel the Port side seems to be your best chance and will also likely face the beach in Roatan. Belize is a long tender ride in so you don't really see much of the port from the ship, but the Starboard side usually faces land. Ships can often back into the berth or do other things that changes which way they face. They face the way I indicated more times than not in my limited experience. I haven't sailed out of Galveston yet so it will be a week and a half before I see what is the best view there. At sea the side makes very little difference because not a lot of time is spent going directly North, South, East, or West so either side should get about the same Sun / Shade. As far as inside the ship look at the deck above and below your cabin. Try to avoid night clubs and show rooms. There is usually a band stand in the casino now too but not on the map. Avoid being above or below it if you can. Also avoid being below empty spaced on the map. Often are the galley or something mechanical. We always book on a deck sandwiched between two decks of cabins. We also book near the elevator, but not the closest one to it (for noise reasons). SOMEBEECH Posted January 28, 2015 #5 Share Posted January 28, 2015 That last paragraph Miller makes it sound like there isn't a good room on the ship. But I know what your saying. I know in Coz. the pull in so land will be on the port with more towards the bow. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Actually on the itinerary the OP is on, the predominant course is north/south. Sunrises in one direction and sunset the other. Two sea days going out, one coming back. wbc12345 Posted January 28, 2015 #7 Share Posted January 28, 2015 We've done this itinerary twice in the last two years... I'd definitely recommend the Port side if you'd like an island view. We had an island view in both Roatan and Cozumel.
KPfromCT Posted January 29, 2015 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2015 Port side. I don't like odd numbered cabins.:o No, in all honesty, the past two years, on the Breeze, we did the same cabin, 10278, a Lido balcony. We had all port views pulling in. Not sure about your itinerary.:o

springs741 Posted January 29, 2015 #14 Share Posted January 29, 2015 4 times in Cozumel since 2011. Twice we have booked port (our only two port in 8 Carnival cruises) and twice we have been starboard. We have had one each of each view. So there really isn't any rhyme or reason. RWolver672 Posted January 29, 2015 #18 Share Posted January 29, 2015 To us, it doesn't matter. If we don't see it on the way down, we see it on the way back. :D
MazziB Posted January 29, 2015 #19 Share Posted January 29, 2015 The only time which side of the ship to book a room would be EXAMPLE : taking cruise/tour in Alaska when you only sail one way. Then it would be depending on if you are sailing North or South.
Cairnmom Posted January 29, 2015 #20 Share Posted January 29, 2015 I like to book the side of the ship that will have the most sunsets 😄
