Booking today.....We will be cruising the (exotic) Western Caribbean out of Galveston on the Freedom (Mahogany Bay, to Belize, to Coz, then back to Galveston). We are booking a balcony room, but I need help deciding which side of the ship you recommend. Thanks :)

For facing land in Cozumel the Port side seems to be your best chance and will also likely face the beach in Roatan. Belize is a long tender ride in so you don't really see much of the port from the ship, but the Starboard side usually faces land. Ships can often back into the berth or do other things that changes which way they face. They face the way I indicated more times than not in my limited experience. I haven't sailed out of Galveston yet so it will be a week and a half before I see what is the best view there.

At sea the side makes very little difference because not a lot of time is spent going directly North, South, East, or West so either side should get about the same Sun / Shade.

As far as inside the ship look at the deck above and below your cabin. Try to avoid night clubs and show rooms. There is usually a band stand in the casino now too but not on the map. Avoid being above or below it if you can. Also avoid being below empty spaced on the map. Often are the galley or something mechanical.

Great ideas, thanks! We always book on a deck sandwiched between two decks of cabins. We also book near the elevator, but not the closest one to it (for noise reasons).

That last paragraph Miller makes it sound like there isn't a good room on the ship. But I know what your saying.

I know in Coz. the pull in so land will be on the port with more towards the bow.

Actually on the itinerary the OP is on, the predominant course is north/south. Sunrises in one direction and sunset the other. Two sea days going out, one coming back.

We just booked and went with a mid-ship room on the port side, Empress Deck. :D

Hi Martini Mom :)

Ahhhhhhhh...... Port side..... Wise decision!

(take a peek my screen name, hehehe :D)

I am deeply sorry to hear about your husband's diagnoses of MS.

I've been living with the beast for 15 years now. I hope all is ok.

Have a wonderful voyage! And have a terrific day!

I know! Hubby was diagnosed with MS and the company he worked for went out of business. We were working on rebuilding the last few years. :) Back to the Fun Ships!:D

Sorry to hear that. :( Best of luck and enjoy your cruise!

Thanks :) He's actually doing really well. We changed our diet dramatically and that seems to really be helping things a lot! Hope you're doing ok with your MS. :)
