cruzinmom Posted September 6, 2005 #3 Share Posted September 6, 2005 HMMM... I was looking at at booking a tour for stingray sand bar, hell, and the turtle farm can I just book the stingray portion and take a taxi to hell, and turtle farm? Has anyone done that before? Thanks. ccrn Posted September 6, 2005 #4 Share Posted September 6, 2005 When we were in Grand Cayman in June, we used Soto's for Stingray City, and they dropped us off at the Hyatt. From there we called a taxi, who took us to the turtle farm and hell. At the time, it was $10 per person. He did wait for us at the turtle farm and hell. We even got a small discount at the turtle farm, because of our driver. Not sure if that works for all taxi drivers though.
zydecocruiser Posted September 7, 2005 Author #5 Share Posted September 7, 2005 Think the prices to turtle farm include waiting. The island tours used to be $15 and they did wait. The rates were emailed to me from this place http://www.stingraycabandtours.com/ you can email them and ask about a custom package I'm sure. I had inquired about a trip to Cemetery Beach but wanted to make sure I could get a round-trip (the answer was yes)!

I was looking at at booking a tour for stingray sand bar, hell, and the turtle farm can I just book the stingray portion and take a taxi to hell, and turtle farm? Has anyone done that before? Thanks. Book with Capt Marvin for the stingrays, because right after the Stingrays, a tour leaves for Hell, Turtle Farm and the Tortuga Rum factory. Once price gets you admission and transportation to all places.
Bob7 Posted December 24, 2005 #10 Share Posted December 24, 2005 I was on another Cayman board and mentioned these official taxi rates, and the locals said no cabbie would ever take anyone for those rates, the actual ones are much higher, like $10 p.p. to get to the first few resorts along 7 Mile Beach. If you insist, they just tell you to find another cab. Makes the $1.50 bus look pretty good that goes all the way up 7 Mile Beach every 15 minutes. cruzinwieds Posted December 30, 2005 #11 Share Posted December 30, 2005 In November we paid $7 per person from Spotts Bay to Sea Grape. It is only $5 if you tender into Georgetown instead of Spotts Bay.
ell52 Posted December 30, 2005 #12 Share Posted December 30, 2005 Those are accurate rates. We were there in the early part of December and were quoted the $6 for the Courtyard Mariott. We met some people who changed our minds and we ended up going to Beach Club for the posted $4 pp.
RoyalTraveler Posted December 31, 2005 #13 Share Posted December 31, 2005 Can anyone suggest the best + economical way for 3 adults to travel to Rum Point from port at George Town in January?
mabear0404 Posted December 31, 2005 #14 Share Posted December 31, 2005 I would also like to know the answer to this question. we will be in GC on Valentine's Day and are in port from 10AM to 5:30 PM. i would love to do the stingrays and then head to Rum Point but there are no ship-sponsored excursions that go to RP. can anyone tell me how we can do this? will the ferry be the best bet? this will be our honeymoon and my hubby's first cruise (my 2nd) and i'd prefer to avoid the crowds at 7 Mile (5 ships in port that day). Thanks- Mary Ellen and Gregg SovoS 1/03 GoS 2/06 Honeymoon!
zydecocruiser Posted January 13, 2006 Author #15 Share Posted January 13, 2006 I was on another Cayman board and mentioned these official taxi rates, and the locals said no cabbie would ever take anyone for those rates, the actual ones are much higher, like $10 p.p. to get to the first few resorts along 7 Mile Beach. If you insist, they just tell you to find another cab. Makes the $1.50 bus look pretty good that goes all the way up 7 Mile Beach every 15 minutes. There is a bus stop in front of Courtyard. Those rates were sent to me by stingray cab and tours who will honor the rates and they will even let you make reservations. http://stingraycabandtours.com/prices.htm
Bob7 Posted January 14, 2006 #16 Share Posted January 14, 2006 Yeah it's good to see that Ell52 got the good rates, I guess we can dig our heels in if they get greedy.

Bob7 Posted January 16, 2006 #19 Share Posted January 16, 2006 Does anyone know where I can find the bus schedule? Here's one more: http://www.caymanvacations.com/general/bus_service.htm
drew sailbum Posted January 16, 2006 #20 Share Posted January 16, 2006 I think it would be a misnomer to say that the buses here operate on a schedule. And certainly the fares listed are quite out of date. Some general rules can be drawn. Buses are more frequent along Seven Mile Beach than to the eastern districts (East End and/or Northside). Bus fares are indeed variable according to distance travelled, even on the same bus. And there is indeed a color coding/numerical system for identifying routes. Beyond that, I strongly encourage people to ask the driver before boarding if you have any doubts.
Coolcruise02 Posted January 16, 2006 #21 Share Posted January 16, 2006 We walked one block from the pier and turned left (across from the post office) and went one more block, on the right is the bus depot. They will tell you what bus to get on and the cost. You can't miss the bus depot sign, it's bright blue. :)
