beach near town

Are there any nice beaches near town? We want to go to the beach for a while, but I still want to do some shopping. We were/are thinking about Nachi Cocom, but it is the opposite direction from the International cruise terminial I believe. Any advice? We can go AI or not, doesn't really matter.

Well town is the other way. $7-9 pp taxi ride.

 

There are beach access points between the International pier and downtown, just not sure the beach will be up to your expectations of a beach like Mr Sanchos or Paradise Beach.

 

There are beaches in the northern part of the island near downtown. Buccanos or Cozumeleno Hotel come to mind quickly. There may be day charges here, you'll have to check on these places web sites.

 

As far as shopping, you don't have to go all the way downtown, many shops have outlets at Puerta Maya, just a 5 minute walk away. Anyone can access the shopping area, you just can't get beyond the actual pier without a ship id for a ship docked there. And while one can argue whether or not the prices are higher or maybe more vendors downtown bargaining, once you've included RT taxi, there probably isn't that big of savings between downtown and the pier shops.

The only Cozumel beach I have been on is at Chankanaab Park. The beach there is fine, but not my favorite of all time, so, no expectations to live up to really.
