Norwegian Star

Just booked the Star for next April since the price was incredible. Of course the cynic in me wants to know why it was so incredible.

I know it is an older ship than many of the others in the fleet, but according to internet it was recently refurbished and is being refurbished again this year, so I assume it will be in stellar shape. For those of you who have sailed on the Star and other NCL ships, was the Star experience comparable to the others?

How would you rate it?

Thanks so much!

There are many reasons Norwegian will lower prices on a particular ship or itinerary. With that said, the Star is one of the older ships in comparison with the new Breakaway class, Epic and Jewel class, so people who want the new ships with all the bells and whistles, the older ships can get a better deal.

The last time we were on the Star we could see she looked a little shabby. She has been refurbished since then, and then again this month. The thing is that even when they take the ship to dry dock it doesn't mean everything is replaced, so there may be some worn areas even after the dry dock. With that said, the times we have been on the Star she is easy to get around on and the crew has always been very good. The experience on the Epic and Breakaway class ships will be different because they offer entertainment and dining not available on the Star. If that is important to you then you might think twice about the Star.

We have sailed on the Star twice with our third trip planned for this May. The ship is currently on her way up the California coast to dry dock in Portland. Not everything with be refreshed, but there should be marked changes. We like the size of the Star, but do miss the great outdoors aft and the spinnaker lounge forward that the jewel class ships have. That being said, we also highly recommend the suites on deck 12 of the Star - fantastic.

We are sailing for the 2nd time on the Star--the first cruise after dry dock.

Last time we had an aft penthouse, which we loved. This time we have one of those deck 12 suites. We didn't find much to complain about last time. :)

We just booked for november 1, 2015 on the Star ridiculous price....for 5 of us in an SJ suite.......drum roll.....$2,300 HOWEVER I did book through CAS but what a crazy price for 5 of us KSF promo applied and UDP also. Because I was comped a balcony we do not get ALL the promos just one which is fine with me because I do get a casino drink card. I'm a happy camper with this insane price for a suite. On the other hand try and get a suite on the breakaway for the same week haha that price is ridiculous the other way.
