Purchasing my own Onboard Credit

Recommended Posts

I have a cruise booked for November. I have prepaid my DSC and I have also purchased onboard credit. What I am looking to have verified is: can I take the onboard credit that I have purchased out "in cash" while onboard. I could then use this money for spending while visiting the various ports.

You can take it out as cash in the casino - and you have to pay 3% to do so.

Pretty much this - also remember the only way to activate the onboard credit is by linking a credit card or hard cash to it, which they pre-charge or hold for depending on the length of the trip ($300 if it 7 days and $450 if 8 or more days). Don't use a debit card, they'll pre-charge / hold twice as much. Also, whatever amount you didn't use of onboard credit at the end of the trip, they will mail you a check to house in 3-6 weeks - unless you cash out from the casino with the 3% fee, of course.

Thanks for the responses. Currently the US exchange rate here is around 26 - 29 cents on the dollar. So buying OBC and currently paying 11 cents on the dollar and a further 3% if I decide to withdraw it to use at the ports saves me about 15% as opposed to bringing US cash with me. Definitely have to purchase more OBC then. Thanks:D

Demonyte:

Does NCL use the refundable or non-refundable OBC first when a cruiser has both?

Also, if I had, say, $ 300 OBC and loaded it on to a slot machine , spin once and then cash out- d0es that work?

Not that I will ever have EXTRA OBC. Just curious.

Thanks!

Nora

I don't know about the order, we never have had too much OBC so we have never paid attention.

On newest ships where you can charge onboard account directly at the slot machines, you can cash out without playing at all but AFAIK the fee still applies.
